Default New Video Card?

Ok right now I have a ASUS mobo that runs AGP not PCI-E. I am thinking of upgrading to a PCI-E card pretty soon and I am wondering what card I should get.

Right now im using a Radeon X850 Pro 256mb AGP card, but I'm not sure if I should use ATI or Nvidia this time (all my previous cards have been ATI).

I'm looking for a mobo and Gfx Card that isn't too expensive, but still has good performance.

Default Graphics Cards

I used to always run AATI cards but I think Nvidia is leading the graphics market now so I would be more pulled to getting a nice GeForce 7950 if you got the money, Also if you look into more detail there are alot of games Nvidia are working along side the developers of many great games.

Well, i'm not much for going one brand because they have a deal with a company, i'm more into actually comparing performance, reliability, and so on.

I'm thinking maybe I should wait though? By the time Huxley is out DirectX 10 will be out. It will change the whole way the Pixel and Shader Architecture is used, and right now, none of the graphics cards are ready for this. So do you think I should wait for that?

Make sure you check the reviews on some tec sites for the 7900 GTX ... I have heard Bad things about a few of the Manufactures 7900 AGP cards... but the 7900 GTX made by XFX got really good reviews and I have heard they well have a 512MB Version out very soon..

I've always used Nvidia cards, myself. If you want to compare cards, here are some links.

http://www.tomshardware.com/2005/05/..._vi/index.html
http://www.tomshardware.com/2005/07/...vii/index.html
http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphics.html

The first two links are about a year old, unfortunately. One is for AGP and the other is for PCI-e. The third link is for the newest cards, but I don't know if it lists AGP cards at all.

If it comes down to a choice between a 7800 GTX and a 7900 model, I would go with the 7900. It is cheaper with better performance (or it was last time I checked). I haven't heard anything about problems with the AGP 7900s.

Also, don't wait around for Direct X 10. It's going to be exclusively for Windows Vista. So if you want DX 10, you're going to have to get a new operating system.

Nvidia 7900 GT is the best buy right now, of course you should wait till the new line of DirectX10 cards come out and upgrade all at once.

I'm planning on it

I might wait for a bit however, until they get the bugs out of it.
