from what i have heard, the new DX10 standard is a giant leap in graphics. the new DX 10 video cards are so much better at using the available GPU mHz and vid ram that it really doesnt make sense to buy a dx9 card now. geforce is already making DX10 cards from $100 on up. many games have been put back until dx10 is the new standard, they are built with the new hardware in mind and if your building a new computer today, you will be kicking yourself in 3 months if you got anything but a DX10 geforce.
hopefully ATI will catch up. i have always prefered geforce myself if only because they have better driver support but competition is always a good thing. |

When you're a poor high school student (like me) you get the lowest priced thing for your money. If they turn out $150 dx10 cards I'll buy 'em, however I'm NOT buying Vista. I'd rather circumvent said $$ process, I can't afford vista and I'm not going to try. Also not going to even touch Vista until I actually have to use it.

on newegg right now they have dx10 cards for $99 but if your not gonna upgrade to vista it dont matter anyhow. dx10 is THE reason to go to vista
vista's requirements make an upgrade only logical for a new computer, if you bought a computer yesterday and it doesnt have a dx10 card, take it back today. you will be glad you did when Huxley comes out. |

nvidia cards is a must know too many people that have bought ati cards and ended taking them back and getting a nvidia cards, but with amd taking over ATI it will be interesting to see what they can bring to the graphics card industry. (processor with graphics built in is one thing that is happening, basic level graphics though).

Well with AMD taking over ATI and Microsoft working along with Nvidia this should be interesting, I think it is going to make things alot more competitive.
I hope things are more clear by the time some of these nice directX 10 games are released. |

Granted, the 8800 has been the best card on the market for a while now, but there hasn't been any releases (games). All the big titles are expected later this year and ATI will have released it's R600 model. Therefore, by the time you actually use the 8800's full potential, its price will already be 100-200$ lower (posting an estimate). |

Oh, what version of Vista should I get? I need it for DirectX 10, but I'm really not sure what the differences are between ANY of them... |

Well you could go to your local store and get vista or you could do other choice practices... I know I'm not going to go out and buy Vista for the prices there giving. And DirectX 10 is the only thing that's forcing me to start a Linux/Vista boot.

Yeah, DirectX 10 is pretty much the only reason I'm getting Vista. The prices are incredibly high, but I have a stash of money that I've been saving for a few years, all from jobs and stuff, and decided to use it to get my computer good.
P.S. Does DirectX cost anything? Do you download it or buy it in disc form or what??? |
