I'm just curious how many people use IE or Firefox. If you prefer one or the other give why.
For me: Firefox Firefox is malware free (unless you deliberately do something stupid), it keeps those annoying pop-ups partly out and I don't have to worry about ActiveX and other crap. Also with the hackers trying to get through the flaws of IE its liable to break down faster than Firefox. Also Firefox's tabbed browsing doesn't feel as much of a hassle as does it's IE counterpart. When I used tabs in IE 7 I felt like stabbing myself.

prob more cos most FF users have been using FF way before IE got with the times and added tabbed browsing
oh and FF is very very expandable with a huge catalogue of add-ons and expansions from handy things like script blockers to nice things like being able to mod the appearance of the browser and the pages you load with it |

My vote go's on Internet Explorer 7, in my opinion default is always best, everyone has different experiences with different browsers but I am the kind of person who prefers the kind of official/standard of everything.
IE7 has alot more security with it now and is a big improvment to IE6. If you have not tried IE7 then I would give it a try, at first it is strange but pretty sweet once you get used to it. |

Firefox has Mouse Gestures, which make it 100% better for me. No need for forward/back/bookmarks/homepage stuff, now I just wish someone would make a more useful control+L window plugin.
Having a wide range of themes options is nice too. Between those 2 things I can use a very minimalist GUI which is nice (all I have is the top window title bar, and then the file/edit/etc bar). This is enough to put FF over the top as the best browser for me. It still pisses me off plenty though :| |

I hate the fact there is multiple browsers as they are a pain in the butt sometimes for us web builders when they render things differently, some things I do I need to use Internet Explorer and FireFox just to check that it will display the same in both browsers.
Before recently I also had to check things displayed ok in Netscape Navigator which I think is pretty dead now. |

If there was only one browser, vulnerabilities would be found by hackers immediately. And there would be no competition to make the browser better. So in my opinion, this browser war is better.

I use Firefox mostly because of the tabbed browsing, and the fact that the Microsoft website won't let me download IE7 due to its extremely bugged "Genuine Advantage" Validation requirement.
I've never tried Opera though, might do that sometime. |

But ya that's a fairly common strategy... the small guys take risks with investment in innovations, then the big guns with all their capital swoop in and buy things out, and make everything as efficient as possible to open things up for investors. But think of it this way: now basically every browser has tabbed browsing capability... so instead of having to choose 1 feature vs another, you can get both. I still <3 mouse gestures :> |
