hmm... can't decide which would be better off for gaming, dual 64bit AMD, or dual 64bit Intel... both so tempting... but what should I choose for my new gaming rig when Huxley comes out?

i cant tell u any facts on this, but i loved AMD some years ago, i allways bought AMD, then for some reason my brother (he used intel) he got me to buy a intel for a change, and well i stayd with that ever since, i really do prefere intel now.
but i would go on some hardware based forum or something and ask u will prolly get more detailed answers there, and there might also be more knowladge about it. |

My advice: don't stick with just one brand. Pick the best processor for you. Decide only on speed and price not brand names also check out Stalliontek for great processor deals. That's where a year back I got my 3.6 for $195.

Build a custom system.
No reason to limit yourself with a Dell. They are nice PCs but not normally setup for infinite upgrades. As far as processor, Intel clearly has the lead right now. I just switched after 6 years of running AMD and I am pleased. |

I once bought a Dell laptop and I have never touched Dell since, there is no support atall, you just get passed on to different people but none can help you and when you want to speak to the manager he is never available.
Maybe it is different now but I was not impressed. |

Go intel always. Alwayus had intel, always will.
The reason I say this is because I have never had a problem running games using any intel processor, and their very reliable, so get intel. |

Currently C2D's are better but as things go AMD will soon catch up and give you an alternative option with their "star" proccesors. It's impossible to say for certain how well the stars will do but last i checked they were categorized as being equal to or better than the C2d's of course they have yet to be released and you're most likely going to have to upgrade your system, to an extent.

Couldn't of said it better.
Honestly Sephina, read reviews/benchmarks from different websites. It's definately not a full proof method, but it does give you a good overview of what's currently available and what's currently leading the market. A few websites, if I may suggest: http://www.tomshardware.com http://www.anandtech.com http://www.extremetech.com News: http://www.theinquirer.net Of course, they are way too many websites to list them all, but those are some of my favorites. In my own opinion, right now, Intel is leading the market with their Core 2 Duo series. They are cheap, efficient and emancipate almost no heat compared to the AMD X2 series. My Core 2 Duo E6300 with Intel's stock heatsink and one chasis 120mm fan ran at 38-41C. Plus, depending if you're confortable with overclocking, the Core 2 Duo series offer a great potential. I've seen E6300 processors (1.86ghz @ stock) overclocked to 3.00ghz. It's close to a 60% gain. Although, in the end, it's all about the price and to be honest, right now, I believe the Core 2 Duo offers the best performance per dollar. My 2 cents on the matter Basically, just wait and see since Huxley's far from being out! |

my roomate works in IT for a school district. he manages thousands of computers. he knows for a fact that AMDs do not last as long as intel chips. he has much more problems with AMD pc than with the intels, he has the numbers to prove it. that combined with the fact that intels are faster and not any more expensive has lead him to stop buying AMD systems alltogether.

I've stuck with AMD on my home and business computers for over 7 years and I've never had a processor go bad. Really it comes down to price and core speed, check out newegg.com as well for some good prices and sales. I know that at least half of the forum members here love newegg.com. Goodluck! Post your purchase! HOOAH! Arsonic |

yeah newegg rocks
but seriously, intel all the way. the Ghz are not nearly as important as the archectiture, FSB, cache and the Dcds are simply the best processor you can buy today. if you cant afford the intel, i suggest you save up a little more because they are worth it. also, the intel MoBos are really nice. i dont want to sound like a intel fanboy but i have seen the statistics he has gathered on the 30 thousand computers he manages. the average lifespan for the intel chips on intel boards was 20% higher than any other hardware combo. even if those numbers are sqewed by outside factors its still a pretty significant difference for such a large data sample. |

Umm Nvidia chipsets beat out Intel's chipsets. Intel's best and Nvidia's best were tested with Core 2 Duos on both. Nvida had better stats throughout the entire test. I'm not sure which magazine it was but I will edit when I find out.
