Default GPUs

I have been browsing for computer parts for the new computer i am getting and am asking everyone this:
Which gpu chipset manufacturer is better (for the amount you get for your dollar) NVIDIA or ATI?

Thumbs up Nvidia GPU

I would be all for a nice Nvidia whatever you get, I my experiance they have always been more value for money and Nvidia are much better when it comes to things like anti-aliasing so I would say Nvidia for sure.

There's really never a clear cut winner these days. It usually comes down to what good deals you might run across on a particular day and, more importantly, how much money you're willing to spend. These companies are in direct competition, remember, so 1 isn't going to just sit back while the other undercuts them. Generally the best thing to do is pick a price, and then compare benchmarks for cards within that range.

nvidia currently has the best card atm (the 8800s) as ATis card isnt even out on the market yet, however it is looking pretty good, this in turn should cause some price changes in the 8800s and nvidia are already developing their successor, imo wait for ATis competitor card to come out to see if we can get the prices down a bit and then compare, currently it is hard to do due to ATi not having a released equivilant to the 8800.

on a side note though the drivers from nvidia seem a little...well...poor currently

(sorry just noticed how old this thread is)
