This is one of those, speak your mind about the topic topics, ANYthing to do with Phantoms...goes here! Vehicles, weapons, armor, customization, stealth kills, camo, cloak, headshots, knife/short range weapon kills, and whatever else you can think of! Will we be better off with stealthy, fast light vehicles, or huge armored ones? Superior snipers? Would the armor be equal to leather armor in WoW? Will we be able to change scopes and add thermal/night vision to them? Knife one hit kills? Completely invisible or movement detectable? Will their heads be obliterated? Will we have sidearms or a knife? If so, what kind? POST YOUR THOUGHTS HERE!!!

i voted lead-shot.
because no projectile can travel the disance between the muzzle and the target instantly. not a huge lead, but one for the effect of being realistic. now, of course. there will be energy weapons in this game, and any beam rifle should have an instant hit. but a longer recharge time than the ballistic weapons. |

I would expect most weapons to be hitscan anyhow... since this is an MMO and hitscan weapons use less bandwith afaik.
With the speed of gameplay they propose hitscan wont be easy by any means, and a short delay is just like playing any oldschool shooter with a bit of latency so it probably wouldnt make much difference unless it is an excessive delay... say over half a second, but i guess things might be different on the console side. On a sidenote, isnt halo just a non-ping compensated game, and thats the only reason you lead your target anyhow? Last edited by Zipknob; 20-04-2007 at 02:27 AM. Reason: sidenote |

Definetly like leading shots. It's really not hard at all to figure out how far you have to lead someone and it makes the game a lot more fair.
Btw I'm thinking about being a phantom because I've always liked sniping. Hopefully they will have some stuff for long range sniping as well as kind of mid battle fighting. I do enjoy taking my time and setting up a shot every now and then, but being mixed in with the fighting while only a small distance behind the front line, under a rock or laying prone next to some rubble with shots going around you while you quickly take out your enemies before they finish you off is always fun Hopefully they will also have a long range sniper as well as a shorter range sniper with a shorter scope zoom and a bit quicker fire rate, kind of like a semi auto sniper that isn't nearly as powerfull but works nicely for closer range shooting. |

well, the information they did release shows us there are ''beam-rifle's''.
and.. beam rifle's are energy-based, which would mean that when the energy was released, it would travel light-speed... which in turn means; no leading, however if there are regular sniper-rifles in the game, they'll have to lead.(since it has PvP) and as one would assume, headshot=kill... so i would guess that beam-rifles would be less effective against an armored unit than a regular one(I.E.; 3-4 energy shots on med-armor, 2-3 normal shots on med-armor) |

Snipers in cities have lots of good spots they're called tall buildings, as long as you don't stay in one place for too long you'll be fine. If you get some people to support your sniping you could stay in one place, but then people will seek cover from you so it is best to move now and then.

Well in the start TKO headsh0t spoke of knifes with one hit kill... Try play UT04 where the Shield Gun (something like knife) kills from 3 hits, to get close enough to knife somebody is hard not speaking of killing them from more then one hit. Only noobs will be killed by knifes which kills from more then one hit plus thats not so fun. Anyhow back to Phantom. I believe that they should be very quick (running speed) and have light armor.
If there are to be many snipers on the field you would like to be one too cause you cant get a kill and get camped out the whole time. In BF if there is a sniper and he killed me i spawn with sniper and kill him so thats the end for him... But in this game i doubt it would be that easy. All though being sniper on a map with good camping spots is fun ^^ Havent decided what im gonnn abe yet :P Maybe Phantom! Plus if snipers are to be right... One shot one kill if hit, if the bullet penetrates your leg with that kind of weapon in real life... Good bye leg! lol. But if so that would cut many upgrades and such for snipers.. Like upgrades on getting better sniper rifle.

well how are the players going to be move? if its a bf 2142 tipe of moving then its lead to kill because the not moving in insane speeds but if it going to be a UT tipe matchs then u need a instent hit because the maps are not going to be to big the person who has and good aim with beem rifle wile u using 2 or 3 shoots to hit a fast moving guy, u will be cooked, but im really making a guess on this sorry if i make no sence

Well first off, weapons will only do damage based off the class and modifications of the weapon. There will be classes E-A (A being the strongest). So I would only guess that a sniper rifle will work the same as if a person were to take down an elephant. A nice big .50 caliber to the head will do major damage, but having a pea shooter rifle will just piss him off. I for one love rogues and the idea of it, so I think about things like this.
