Naw, many came and left during that run.
As for people getting better in a day. Yeah, people can greatly improve after a day. In the most part the people don't do well because they aren't used to the weapons, recoil and combat system of the FPS. Give them a day to find the best weapons, figure out the layouts of the maps (At least basically) and they'll improve greatly. Recently I reinstalled an old version of a mod called Firearms because a team formed to port it to source and opened up a couple servers. Most of the people sucked the first few days then everybody got used to it again and the game got to be more fun and less spam. The other things that happen are the people that were bad one day may be playing against good people, and the next day playing against shitty players and padding their scores that way.

Ah, was just wondering. Not saying they hack (cuz i know most do anyway in that game like the helios radar, and speed hack or exploiting bugs etc), but was confused for a while. I'm not that familiar with hacks anyway, i pretty much come from a small game of 20 players(used to be 100+), so i havn't really been able to establish myself like on those games where it's mega populated, and get to know that kinda stuff.

Unless you're running a server or moderating for one, no real need to know. I started playing FPSs in the early 90's with wolfenstein and since then I've seen ALOT of different ways to cheat pop up and run through just as many ways to block them and catch the people using them. Unless you actually get into the theory behind what makes them work and what parts of the game engines they use, they generally remain a mystery. Most cheaters these days usually have no clue how they work besides "I double clicked the .exe and i press this button to make it work" which in a way is a pity, it was almost fun years ago when you literally battled cheaters in your server to keep them out. WON was more fun than Steam IMO.

Amen!
Back when Red Faction Multiplayer was actually big, 1997 methinks... there was a huge thing with people using mod hacks (through walls shots, noclip, xray vision, super zoom, one hit kill etc...), you literally had all out wars with MOD clans and skillful NON MODDERS would actually kick their asses 50% of the time. The fun thing was that most of the MODS were home grown and each MOD user would make his MOD pretty unique to himself |

Rpgs are the only genre I can think of I ever really needed to work at to be good at. Ive been playing ut, ut2k4, quake3 for years. Im a fastpaced deathmatch kind of guy, but I can tolerate cs too sometimes. As far as squad fps goes I always liked tribes and socom (even though socom is a 3rd eprson shooter I always played it in first person so I guess it worsk all the same). Another great shooter which I started playing all last year and year before right before most of the community collapsed was alien vs. predator 2. Its a great game. Really though I need to get some practice before huxley. Its been a good while since I quit avp and fear my skills might get rusty.
Unfortunately my pc has crapped out so there goes most my practice. Plan on buyings a x360 next summer so I can join in with all the huxley hype. Only thing I got left is a dinky old ps2. Ps2 obviously isnt the best for fps but any suggestions? |

First of all, I'm terribly sorry to dig out an old thread. Just thought this was an interesting subject and that it's far from being outdated. We're in the off topic section after all!

Battlefield 35/9 K/d Average with my Support Kit love big gun and fast rate of fire. Havin to Crouch tho would fuk me sumtimes but its only way hit anytin. while ma PS K/d wasnt so good Battlefield 2 was a more twitch type of game (PS wasnt twitch at all) so its all in the fingerz too....On finding your skill you jus play and you get better just like at sports and stuff (dats how i feel bout FPS's) |

cant say a good ratio doesnt make u feel good tho
the problem with a lot of FPS is there is almost no reward for teamwork i.e. repairing team equipment, assisting a flag cap etc. when the only focus is on k/d, the same players tend to dominate every match. |

Like you stated about your "skill" etc it doesn't completely depend on how you play. It depends on how your 'enemy' plays for a much bigger role. For example, if you play Ut2004 and you get a server with "newb / noob" people in it who don't know how to dodge or whatever then yeah you'll get a high K/D rate after playing the game more. If you do get opponents who know the trick you're most likely going get some good competition or you're going to be fried. If you're not in these situations then i suggest you should make playing Ut2004 your living because you are unstoppable? Anyways sorry for the somewhat stupid ( probably not understandable |
