Yeah Planetside wasnt really based too heavily on skill... but it did take some practice to be able to be a master reaverwhore

what are you talking about? it was all skill, how was it not? Any fps requires skill. And it was not easy to do the shit that was being done in that vid.

Planetside was all about having the right gun at the right time, like a maelstorm or a chaingun in a tight area for example. Plus on that video, half the people he kills dont even shoot back or even face his direction

As for PS not taking skill, it really didn't. The guns didnt have recoil, they just became innacurate. Luck is not how you make an FPS skill based. Recoil isn't the only thing, the movement speed is so low that if you catch somebody in the open it's very hard not to hit them unless you spray. Mass fire tactics were the name of the game and lets not forget plasma spam. Without those two nothing got done and it was just a grind.

Planetside was a game of legends.
I played that game on and off for 2 1/2 years and as a fickle gamer that's something to say; it was just that good. I was Breed BR20 CR5 of Werner, Sub Commander of INI Elite. The FPS side of the game was awesome but the depth was what kept us all interested. The tactical side was so mesmerising in what you could achieve through teamwork on a large scale. A squad of 20 goes to a tech base and destroys its generator to cut of supplies to an enemy base on the other side of the continent so the battle tips in your favour...sounds simple but the scale was intense. I'm hoping huxley will fill the gap that SOE left when they started milking Planetside instead of putting resources into it.

I played planetside finally (the free download) but i dont get it...and it's huge and takes forever to move around on foot and vehicles last untill you die then you're on foot again. Killing is easy but most of the time i walked around all map.

Huxley should be everything Planetside wanted to be but kind of failed at. Stick to combined arms fighting, including a bit of air support, and dammit all to hell if you don't have a dropship (like the Galaxy in Planetside) for that "red-alert-rushing-to-the-scene" kind of feel. I have a good feeling looking at all the Huxley materials that it could be the game that people have been waiting for. People want a game like Planetside they just want it done right. |
