I think music is a great way to help when you need to grind in a game, Without music I would find grinding alot more painful and I am sure others will agree with me.

i like to if its something like grinding like gobly said but something like counterstrike it helps to be able to hear so u can hear bullets around you or footsteps or other team reloading so u know whats going on

That's why I don't listen to music while playing. The player with the situational awareness has the advantage.

I probably listen 60 percent of the time, its great while on those long drives and useless footzergs in planetside. Sometimes tho my brain gets confused, just blocks out the game sounds, or i'm trying to focus on teamspeak

whether or not I listen depends on what I'm doing, in a UT 1v1 match noise is important, I turn the music off, in a UT deathmatch with 12 players I crank it up, since the explosions and screams drown out any tactical audio anyway.

I listen to rock/punk rock/techno music while im playing games. Puts me in a mood and then i get into some serious ownage
