cool experience in PlanetSide

I'd like to share a little event that was very subtile but really left an impression on me.

I was playing my NC character as CE ("SpareBolt") and I was finally out of the que for Cyssor, driving my ams away from the warp when I arrived at some bridge.
I was about to cross it when I noticed friendly traffic coming towards me, so I backed up to make space...
Then I noticed it was not just one tank, it was one tank and 6 amphibius ground transports, driving in formation.
Being a reservist player myself I know how disorganized the common player is, so this was quite new to me, I decided to follow the tank and deploy when we arrived at the target, wherever this was.

I deployed the ams just outside the base where they arrived and headed in behind them. They where already inside by the time I got there and I saw there was no movement on the map, they were inside, but not moving.
I went in and finally arrived in one of those big rooms inside the base.
Nobody moved, everybody had taken a devensive position, aimed at all the doors they lead inwards.
The base was hacked and everybody stood still, no talking, no jumping, just completly still.

After asking one person, I found out they were all one outfit called 'fightclub'. They remained motionless until the first Terran took a look what was going on. They held that area until finally the rest of NC arrived.
It was cool to see such a disciplined operation being carried out.

I have had many fun experiances latley.I too have upgraded from reservist account.But with this lame 3 year event they got going on they took away the vehicles. but group got toghther before they took away our lightning tanks. and they had a platoon or so 30+ lightings all meet at a heart station and drove in a formation we got to the typical cysor bride battle ensued. it was great they didnt know we where coming and when the 30+ tanks lined up and started firing away over the water it just had me in awe watching waves of shells hitting the NC on the other side. Boy what a blast.

Also seen a libby(liberator) out fit have it memebrs all on and on teamspeak and they had maybe 20+ liberators all bombing stuff it was great.

I really enjoy watching those well organized attack formations, it seems NC did something alike once since I remember something like that as well.(plays NC)

Yea, I was in an outfit like that for a while (Azure Twilight VS/Emerald) but I ended up not liking it because everyone in it was anal retentive and fairly douchebagish. They were successful however. Their tactics worked and they helped the VS but I just couldn't stand them taking the game so seriously.

Just last night I had a blast experimenting with my eagle BFR. I started to get tired of the "take a tank bullet, go heal, go back kill 1 person and take a tank bullet" so instead, I hopped over the CY wall with my eagle and as I was pounded to death with tank shells i killed 3-4 guys at the vehicle bay

Hey what server you play on?
i been playing almost every day finally got my cavern kills done with my TR palyer and picked up my BFR-colosus wasnt to happy once i got it. It was so slow getting any where in it and seemed like because your so big your pretty much a lumbering target for everyone on the battle field, from infanty to air power every one focusess attacks on you and spent most of time running back to base to repair.
i took my cert points back and when with air power for the speed.
Still might do the bfr route for my VS player i love the look of the VS(bfr) and the solid anti infantry beam looks way cool when shooting.

Fight Club are a good bunch, we used to team up with them all the time, I think what they were doing there was called Gen Hold, where they blow the power plant of the base and then hole up there to prevent the enemy forces repairing it. The way bases work in planetside is they have a latice linking them together, each base has a certain property it passes on to all the other bases on the latice (reduced spawn times, availablility of automated vehicle repair pads, improved radar and automated wall turrets, reduced power drain, availability of "tech vehicles - usually the best vehicles in the game"). If you destroy the powerplant of the base it takes that bonus away from all the other bases belonging to that empire in that battle, as well as shutting down the vehicle pads, respawn bays, equipment consoles, turrets and any core modules installed there.

What we used to do and Fight Club does occasionally but less so, is take there squads behind the battle lines to a tech plant (techs have the biggest impact aside from dropship centers) and then do over its generator. The enemy naturally would then be disadvantaged, light tanks and aircraft are no match for heavy tanks and gunships. So your empire gained a tactical advantage, but then in order to get them back they would have to repair the generator, sending one or two people would fail eventually if you do it right you can divert anything up to 40 people from the battle and hold them up trying to get you out of the gen room for 10 minutes to an hour.

That kind of action requires good teamwork and most importantly discipline amonst the squad members, poorly disciplined squads would often try and chase down low health enemies retreating from the room, or wouldnt watch each others health, armour and ammo status. Leaving your position would create a weakpoint and increase the chances of you dying, if you died out of position, the advanced meds would have to risk themselves getting you back on your feet. Organised squads would keep each other alive and not break ranks they would quickly share ammo and would load out their backpacks with stuff intended not just for their use but for their squad mates as well.

Some of the best gen holds we did lasted up to an hour and were only broken when we all ran out of ammo and only had knives to fight them off with, the tempo of the fight slowly builds as more an more enemies arrive to try and clear you out, building in intensity until its just a constant battering against you, totally exhilirating and immensley satisfying.

There were lots of quirks like this in planetside, it was part of the genius of the game, it was a form of player driven content, they didnt tell us to go and do that, squad leaders worked it out and made the decisions as they went then refined the tactics as they did it more and more.


If you are playing on Werner you would do well to join Fight Club as they are a nice group and they do stuff liek that, all be it not all the time, my outfit has folded in the game and we are all just waiting for Tabula Rasa and Huxley.

FC dont, we do tactical stuff, then we do stupid stuff.
