Default Webzen's Older Game

so I tried out Mu online, webzen's older game (info about it here http://www.webzengames.com/Game/Mu/default.asp ) because it's free and whatnot (granted free to play version the characters level up half as fast as pay-per-month)

I will be forgiving of the older graphics in that it was made around the time of windows 98 most likely.

However, I don't like how I end up showing up with no idea of what to do or anything, and no sense of direction of where to go, who to talk to, or what to do or anything, and I have yet to find any "map feature" besides the warping around, which costs in-game money that I don't have, so I end up walking around completely lost with little to no sense of direction.

first character I made I barely took 4 steps out the east exit from the town and then WHOMP this big rock dude kills me in 2 hits, leaving me going "WTF? how was I supposed to know I wasn't supposed to go that way?"

all in all it left me feeling very lost/aimless of where to go and what to do and who to kill, also though I haven't played it much it doesn't look like there's any quests or anything to give character exp, looks like it's more or less a big grind fest like EQ was... I dunno, maybe I'm doing something wrong or I'm missing something from the fact that I was playing it while half asleep when I tried it out. I just hope Huxley doesn't turn out anything like that.

Considering it was made in the time of '98 as you said, they have probably learned from their mistakes by now. They have other MMOs going so huxley shouldn't be THAT bad since it's been in development for over 2 years...or I hope it's not. I've already had 1 dream crushed today and I don't want this one to end up sucking.

MU was rather popular for the demographic they aimed it toward, wasn't it?

according to download.com's file listing for the client:

# Downloads: 3,897,166
# Requirements: Windows 98/Me/2000/XP
# Date Added:May 1, 2007

I wonder how they calculate that exactly, but regardless it's pretty decent.

that's just how many people downloaded it - but who knows how many of those downloads were people who downloaded and didn't find it all that fun like me? again, what mostly got me was there was no "tutorial" map or beginning quests or anything to start me off, and also no map to use to know where I was going - people need something to get them started so to speak, something to allow them to learn the ropes of how the game works, the only exception to that rule is if the games are very simple.

It was like Diablo2 without the map and without the randomly generated levels.

also, I seem to recall that while I was browsing through the servers available to play on, most of them had a very low population, and the occasional medium population ones, which there were 1 or 2 of (and it was late at night - which is usually an MMO's peak hours if I'm not mistaken)

I think that Huxley isn't going to be anything like that thankfully, I'm pretty sure they have learned from thier mistake.

Depends on which area they're shooting for. 1-2 in the morning in the US would be 5-6 in EU and 11-12 in japan.

I found that peak time in my server on WoW was about 6pm-11pm Rocky Mountain time.

you'd be surprised how many non english players play on english servers. It's the crazy asian code "we can't compete against each other so lets own those english n00bs"

Haha :P
That's cool man! I mean, i know that mostly all nations hate Russians and everybody else. I mean look at Emgland they hate each other. Anyhow thats not the point, i know lots MMORPGs where russians gather clans cause they don't speak english, somebody says something to some russian from some other english or whatever clan, they do clan wars and pwn them :P
Plus there are most likely servers like American - French - German - English - Asia and whatever, most of the countries are left out, and since many people go to english servers cause they understand that more then other servers languages so yeah that's fun. :D
