God I am so tired of the bull schools pull for stuff done outside of school which is outside there jurisdiction.
Look here... I mean come on, a CS map of a school is by no means ground for expulsion. Red Dawn, a great movie, had the beginning scene at a school where the Red Army parachuted in during school. I'd so make a map of that if I knew how to. Schools just need to understand that yes there are people that might do such things but that number is insanely low.

What's funny is this isn't even really a debate... it was a hot topic on the internet yesterday until people realized that basically absolutely nobody agrees with what they did. So basically it's 99% of people laughing at the bad decisions of a handful of them, and feeling bad for the 1 person in particular who is suffering because of it.
Articles keep making vague references to "other evidence", but I have yet to see any mention of anything other than a sword and a hammer found in his room... which is pretty zzz. |

This is stupid. It says that it took place "one day after the Virginia Tech murders " which means he's obviously made the map before the murders, since I don't know anyone who make a map in just 1 day. It also says that "Sword ownership rights have been under heavy fire since they were determined to be the leading cause of death during the Siege of Acre in the third crusade". W T F......that happened 900 years ago. Also, swords were the main weapon used in the crusades. In fact, that quote makes me wonder about the validity of that article. Who would attack sword ownership with the fact that swords were the leading cause of death during the third crusade. There are also many other instances in the article that make me wonder if this is real. It might be real, but I don't know.

I think expelling the kid would create a bigger risk of him coming back to school with those snazzy decorative swords than if they let him work out any anger on a computer game.
Still highly uncalled for that they just scrap his education, without even a psychiatric evaluation, when it's obvious he has some type of future in the gaming industry. Funny name though, Steve Smelley. I bet he had a fun time going through school. |

I think the whole thing is just BS, the kid made a map, big whoop, be under suspicion if need be, but expelling... thats a lil far, next they might have the dude who made fy_poolday claiming that he made it as a plan on the local swimming center... although i did like the authors criticism about sword ownership "determined to be the leading cause of death during the Siege of Acre in the third crusade.".. threw me off at first.
