Default Xbox 360 & PC Players On The Same Servers, E3 Special!

http://www.e3insider.com/news/?articleID=DVVYS8UYQH

Looks like this is straight from the horses mouth!

First thing that springs to my mind is 'mouse verses console controller'! Surely the mouse is gonna be quicker!

Also webzen will be releasing new video clips and screenshots tomorrow! may 11th.

" . . . We're going to start to see these worlds where you can . . . "

I'd hardly say that is definitive, in fact no more clear than they have been in the past - perhaps they don't know yet either.

It'd be a bad idea unless the mouse becomes widely available to xbox users because if it's the same servers mouse versus gamepad they're going to get spanked :-/

That's not a slight at the xbox users skill - just the control method.

Gamepad < Mouse for FPS

I dunno...I've seen experienced console players use a gamepad and they still can get pretty good - if you've been using a gamepad since day one, you're going to get as good with it as one can be with a mouse.

Depends on what one is used to I spose.

Now, this paragraph:

'Consoles play a very strong part in our strategy, Huxley being a perfect example right now. It's being developed on the Xbox 360. We're going to start to see these worlds where you can have a character that can be played off of your PC or on a console, all off of the same servers. Consoles are so significant because that's the way we were raised to play here in the U.S. It's going to be a significant figure that we have to consider in our long-term strategy.'

this say's to me that huxley will either launch with multi-platform support or will get it through a patch after the game has been launched.

What does everyone else reckon?

I was told by my friend @ e3, the Webzen booth will be doing large scale Huxley info and demonstration today, not tomorrow.

I assume you've not used both in a FPS :-/

A gamepad simply cannot keep up with a mouse, with a mouse you can instantly aim at any point on the screen or spin 90 or 180 degrees, that's simply not possible with the gamepad and this delay will be enough to leave a gamepad user way behind a mouse user.

Add to this the increased accuracy with a mouse and it's a no brainer I'm afraid.

Default Consoles need mice

Yeah, I was a hardcore console FPS player for around 5 years, and I would never have admitted I could be bested by a keyboard/mouse. Now that I've started playing both, unless you are playing a game that is fairly slow, the mouse rules all. Even in Wolfenstein, a game that is mid-ranged on speed, I can tell my slight skills are amplified ten-fold when using a mouse over my Xbox controller.

In spite of this, I still bet I can a Halo PC player, consol to PC .

well you have to understand that the console players are good against other console players. I have not seen a pc/xbox connected game before.

Heh, that's about the only reason i'd want a console player watching my back. I'm richly rewarding for joining up with the poor sap. About the only thing that the console might be better at would be the vehicles, for the FPS part, and since this is really a twitch based game . . . . well, suffice it to say that I hope they distinguish console players from PC players ingame somehow.

As for thinking that a controller can keep up with a mouse . . . well I remember hearing they rigged DoD together using consoles and PC's and pitted the consoles vs pc, PC just slaughtered em. That's not to say they were evenly matched or anything like that. I can't remember the specifics, HOWEVER Halo is another example.

Halo on console (First Halo) was a pretty balanced game, but when they brought it out for PC, the pistol was the best weapon in the game because you could actually aim and use the damn thing effectively. You didn't have to drag an automatic spraying like mad around in order to hit your targets.

If you think the console players still have hope . . . well life without hope sucks. Keep ahold of it if you can.

As has been mentioned by anyone who isnt stroking their epeen about how good they are and how awesome their control method is vs someone elses. you will not be able to tell who has a control and who does not.

You wont be able to tell a difference. People suck using controllers and people suck using mice. All you will know is that you killed some poor bloke and now you are off to the next one.

As someone who uses an xbox controller to play UT online and does quite well I can tell you that with the proper sensitivity settings on a controller you can turn around just as fast with a mouse as with a controller and in these types of games you will do just fine. BUt lets not turn this into another keyboard vs console debate. We have enough of these going around.

I heared that they were working on evening out the difference between the two. I'm not sure if it would work and I'm not a PC gaming expert but if you slowed down the mouse sensitivity. So that way it takes the same amount of time to look from point A to point B with the mouse and the controller . You would still have good accuracy with a mouse but it would even it out a bit.

Just because PC and xbox are on the same server, and just because they interact, doesn't necessarily mean they'll be in the same fields of combat.

In a previous interview they apparently demonstrated that they have console and pc platforms interacting effectively already. They haven't mentioned how exactly they would implement it all. I'd bet they haven't even decided yet... it appears to be technologically possible, they just have to decide if it fits the market for both games and the balance of the game.

"We're going to start to see these worlds where you can have a character that can be played off of your PC or on a console, all off of the same servers." doesn't even necessarily mean he was referring to Huxley. Sounds like a deliberately open-ended response to me. Maybe Huxley will be the exact same game on 2 platforms, but if not he wouldn't be a liar since he just said that eventually there will be games of some genre that do that.

I won't even get into why the console version of the game might be better off with different content than the PC one (due to different markets if nothing else), but the Steve Polge interview at E3 brought up some good points about catering to each platform's strengths. Making a game an exact port between the two would likely mean sacrificing potential for one version or the other.

I dont know what you guys are talking about I cant beat anyone with a controller.

The controller is more precise for me, I always have the sensitivity of the controller on maximum .

I'll repeat what I say - it depends on the preferences on the individual player.

Not all keyboard+mouse users in Huxley will be masters, in the same way that not all console users will be masters either. There will be poeple who won't have that high a skill on both sides, and that skill variance will level the playing field. A master with the console will vanquish an average PC player, and the same would operate in reverse. As with regards to two masters meeting up, the instance of that happening would be much less.

What with the skill curve being so varied, the two platforms would probably balance eachother out in performance, notwithstanding the PC vs. console debate.
