Perhaps it will be a remote controlled turret. You plant it, walk away, pull out your little camera and you can see what the turret see's and shoot.

"Looks like you forgot energy weapons and explosives, such as grenades and mines."

we know energy weapons are in the game but those are under other catagories. for example, some of the sniper rifles will be bullets and some will be lasers.

grenade launchers are confirmed, but not 'regular' gernades or mines.

mountable MGs is an idea but im not really sure that it fits in with the fast paced nature of the game.

Sometimes there are energy weapons that don't go into other catagories and are a catagorie of their own. I can't think of any at the moment, but I'm sure there is.

I would say yes, because for the fact that you obviously "fling" a "projectile" ( a.k.a. grenade ) i can't see what it should be on the other hand.

I'm not sure about what i think about 'assault rifles' and 'SMG's', well the thing is assault rifles are mostly somewhat more powerfull than SMG's you might say SMG's are close range 'sprayers' with not that much power as any other fully automatic weapon.

I would definately like to see the ability to use claymores, laser mines (duke nukem anyone?) and timed/remote C4 options.
I'm not sure what i think about turrets because they can either make the game more tactic or make it just suck.

Personally i don't think we'll see any of this, but for now i'll just have to say we've got to wait for any new gameplay/weapon related information.

A submachine and assault rifle would go under a "Small arms" kind of topic compared to what big guns will be carried around. But SMG and Assault rifles are not the same at all. SMG are made for close quarters.

I'd say a SMG and an Assualt rifle would be between small arms and big guns. I think that pistols are small arms in fact.

in military terms, small arms refers to anything that a guy can carry and use. obviously a pistol falls under that catagory but so does a man portable .30 cal MG or a .50 cal sniper rifle.

anyways, it doesnt really matter what WE call any of this stuff. its what WEBZEN would call everything that matters. they have said that there will be 9 weapon types and they gave a few examples of those types. what "kind of topic" a weapon falls under is not relavent.

saying that 'misc energy' is one of the catagories doesnt really add anything to the discussion. i would appreciate it if you didnt edit my posts to reflect your thinking.

obviously assult rifles and SMGs are not the same but that is not the question. the question is would WEBZEN put them under the same catagory? a SMG is optimized for CQB while an assult rifle is a comprimise for indoor/outdoor, short and long range. there will probably be some assult rifles that are more optimized for short range indoor combat while some SMGs may be designed with a little range in mind too. the 2 classes of weapons overlap, there is no clear charastic that would distinguish one from the other.

all the other classes that we know of are things like rocket launchers, sniper rifles and shotguns. these all have defining charastics that clearly seperate them from each other. all this makes me wonder weither assult rifles and SMG would get seperate classes.

if they are seperate classed then each would have to have some defining charastics to seperate them from each other. maybe the assult rifles can attach accessories like scopes and single shot gernade launchers for secondary fire?

Sorry naggs, I returned your post back to the way it was. And with that, I warn you not to double post.

I think that Assault Rifles and SMGs would get differentley classed because an Assault Rifle is a selective fire rifle, while a SMG more like a machine gun and pistol than a rifle.

What I would like to see is a scout, basically the sniper, to have a scout drone (launch it, fly it in that building to check it out, and..... SELFDESTRUCT.... or something =))
U can ofcource still put regular frag grenades in that list.
And mortars would be cool, but players should fire it themselves, not some dodgy computer program that randomly spawns mortar rounds above ur target.

We've seen all the laser-guided missiles and heavy mg's already, use ur creativity?

hmmmmmmm.....

I have they have some guns that shoot lasers. In most of the videos that seem to only be shooting bullets, missiles and then what looks like the lightning rifle from UT (or is it called the shock rifle? I can't remember, but it's the sniper from UT2K4).

I'm assuming they will have some type of laser gun just because it seems kind of basic for a futeristic FPS. Lots of lasers shooting all over the place looks cool :D

I would say that many of the weapons listed would fall into the categories already listed. A large arry of machine guns would fall within the light and HE machine gun category. Rail guns could fit in with a HE assault weapon along with a large array of other heavy hitting hand cannons. I would say we can safetly look at UT3 and the weapons that they will have and say that there will be some kind of weapon like that in the game along with 100s of different varitations of them and many more. At least I hope it is like this and not like most FPS with 5-13 weapons. IT is an MMO and MMOs usually have lots of different weapons, Lots.

I would also love to see different types of damage like poison, heat, projectile, melee, chemical, energy. Damage types and different types of armor that protected against those types better than others would add a massive amount of variation to the game play and content. Offer different types of ammo that can be used with guns that change damage type and their effects. Like add a bullet that, on impact, creates an AoE damage effect but was far weaker, to one person than the solid slug option. Adding a system like this would take your average FPS and turn it into an MMO.

I saw a picture on IGN with this massive turret, it looked awesome. That will be fun to use, and I really hope there is a stealth option.

Well it's not so fun, i mean for me it's much better with knife which i hope will be included. Im a lover of knifes and how it humiliates guys who i knife. Specialy when the guy claims to be better then me and then i got his dogtag and he shuts his mouth...

i would have said knife, but webzen hasnt said anything about melee weapons(only a melee ability)
