Default Close Combat Weapons

Is it possible that there might be such things as swords and so fourth along with the ranged weaponry ? I personally think this would be a nice touch for those very close situations.

I think therell be meelee for close quaarters.. but hotkeyed, so someone isn't killing a dude 100 feet away caused by a glitch... meaning you have to walk up to him, and hit a certain button.. Cause I hated the origional glitch on a vid game i played... It let you hit a dude... stab him.. for almost 50 feet away...and kill him...

I'm hoping for this in the game, but to be fair, the weapon would have to be weaker than you might expect.

The reason is enforcer with a close range weapon (shotgun, etc) should be able to do more damage than a phantom (a.k.a. sniper) with a knife/sword because enforcers are designed for close range.

That and you aren't supposed to bring a sword to a gunfight, but it may be your only choice.

I believe that it should be less of a sword but more of a knife thing. Kinda like a vibro knife thats popular in Scifi games. It'd do more damage than a regular knife but not as much as a gun.

I think that, depending on the weapon type, the type of character, and what armor the enemy is caring, it would be good if you could kill some one just as well in melee, but with out that forementioned glitch. so your sacraficing range for possible power. this would level out as you would have to get in close to use such a weapon. unfourtunetly i cant think of any games atm for referance. as for a sword to a gun fight, sure you are, but it depends on the location. for a city or an area where you get really close to your opponent ( like the enforcer class suggest you would be good at) then it would be great. where as in a more open area, obviously, you would need another weapon, or be gunned down while charging the enemy.

when we talk about close range melee weapons, then i think something alike the shield gun from UT2k4, protection aginst long ranged enemy's and a chance to get close to them.... bc u only got close waeps on you.

had many simular situations in ut2k4, when i had no long range waep. that also make ur melee weap alot more usefull and alot more apriciated, insted of using it only for fun, when ur trying to backstab someone or when ur out of ammo or something.

for the ppl who dont know shield gun from ut2k4: its a melee waep with a secondary funktion to make a shield in front of u, ur feets is not coverd and u can also take plash dmg from sides/back, it got limited use and recharge over time when used its power, and the primary funktion is a pulse slam, doing dmg (only useable up close)

The melee system in planetside was great. Personally i think that you should have to do something to be able to knife effectively. (ie. Get and implant like you do in planetside) If you could sneak up behind someone and kill them with a knife I think thats ok. But i would like to add that we are in the future and that a sword, to me, would look very out of place. Knife is good though.

There should be an assortment of melee weaps. (ex. daggers, some kinds of furturistic sword, sheild weapon).

I'm not keen on the idea of a sword weapon. At least not if it's anything like Halo2's plasma sword. That was one of the most noob-tacular weapons ever. Perhaps something that would require a great deal of precision and several hits, as these characters have some pretty bulky armor that's not gonna get pierced by some kinda shiny rainbow-blade.

I agree with you the melee weaps should not be overpowered but they should be available for close range combat

They should definitely be available. Certainly knives or bayonets or even some type of machete or sword.

Lol I'd love to see this...

A bloody battle scene streaches to the horizon. All hope seems to be lost until...
ENFORCERS... FIX BAYONETS.... CHARGE!

I wouldn't be the one charging (I plan on being an Avenger), but I would really enjoy the site of my allies charging headlong with bayonets from my position further back - probably offering some cover fire.

Yea I would just loved to see everyone doing what they are best at big enforcers charging in and attacking ppl, avengers giving cover fire from mid range, phantoms picking people off with sniper rifles

I hope they do a really good job balancing this game. Many other FPSs I've played have all had some particular class or element that was so lop-sided it offered no competition to its user.

Bayonets sounds like an interesting idea, that way if reloading or out of ammo, you can still be deadly. But as long as its enforcers only.
