Yeah, I think the melee weapons should be sort of exclusive to Enforcers (at least bayonets). However, I think Phantoms and Avengers should have something small like a knife for backed-into-a-corner scenarios.

Yeah, bayonets are good. Perhaps something more creative too. Like maybe some sort of attachment at the end of the gun that you can stick up to your opponents face and make explode, piercing the armor and doing heavy damage. Sort of like a grenade launcher except it doesn't harm you as the charge is sent directly into the enemy.

To be fair, the only times you will ever melee are probably
A. both players just want to melee or
B. you sneak up on your target.
When else are you going to be able to get that close to somebody amidst fast movement and massive spamming?

C. you are discovered, but have enough agility to dance close enough to ur target to get a strike.

other than that ya sneaking up is pretty much the only other time.

infiltrator phantoms will most likely still get less kills than an enforcer constantly raiding the enemy base with heavy weapons.

the only diff is that people really despise being killed on their own turf with a strike to the back. but it takes skill to not be seen and make kills on hostile ground, and if a combat role takes skill and is worth it (meaning ur first kill isnt the death of you), i'm all for it.

its difficult to balance melee weapons in an FPS. to make them a viable alternative to a gun they have to do good damage but if they are too powerful up close then its the cheap kill. the problem is that it is inheriently a very focused weapon, you completly loose the ability to attack at range so you have to be gaining something. the solution most fps take is to make the knife a last resort and not really a workable strategy. with all the player customization and skills you can take, it would be interesting to see melee spec players, maybe stealthers with some sprint skills and knife damage skills.

im glad i dont have to balance that...

its easy:
cloaker armor < paper cup

because of that usual armor balance, cloakers tend to get killed by fire intended for someone else

It would be really cool in enforcers had some sort of melee weapon and attack. I think theres something about there being a skill that knocksdown your enemy which would be cool for an enforcer. Any sort of melee/gun combo would be cool. Kind of like space marines in warhammer :D

And yea seeing a huge line of enforcers charge an enemy line would be AMAZING and I can't wait to see any sort of mass charging and mass battles that will make the game everything I want it to be

I think that if you run out of ammo a melee with the butt of your gun isn't going to get the job done...I think that a sword would be a really nice thing to have when your running low. Especially if you want to take someone out quietly...
