Voted for suicide bombing but, it really depends on how they balance the game.
Someone brought up the issue of suicide bombing as being an act of desperation which I agree with. There are times in a game where the sides are not even because of player numbers, assets, etc. Suicide bombing can be a way to even the teams out at a cost to one of the players on the loosing side. For example, I will use BF2. If you play Karkand, you know how important those tanks are to each side. If you get both tanks and they are manned by engineers to heal each other, then they are next to impossible to take down. This is a place where using a suicide bomb can be the only way to counter an attack. If they do such a great job at balancing every asset in the game that it is impossible to create a situation like this, then I would say that suicide bombs are unneccessary. Since I doubt that will be the case, I would say the ability should bein the game. It should be balanced of course so that suicide bombing would be detremental to the user and only an advantage to the team if it is done correctly. Despite some of the whining I am hearing, it does take skill to know when to drive a jeep to point blank range on a tank without being shot. Also, despite whining about people being offended, that should not be taken into account in video games, especially mature rated violent games. If everything that could be taken as offensive was left out of games there would be no GTA, no Tony Hawk Pro Skater, no Sims, no WoW. You would be left with pong and I bet there would be someone who could be offended by that if they tried. |

i imagine that since battlefields are instanced, there will be some mechanism to avoid ridiculously one-sided battles like 100 v 50.
like once one team outnumbers the other by a certain amount, like 20%. only members of the race of the outnumbered team can join until teams even out a bit. |

While it would be fun for the "bomber" it would not be very much fun for the player/team that worked so hard to bring the "bomber" down in the first place. I think if that was implemented everyone who was about to die would throw on a bomb and ruin the other player's day. It would get carries away, people would just constanly run in and self-destruct.. kinda be like greifing... reverse to "corpse camping" or... I don't know...just plain annoying. IMO

If someone is trying to suicide bomb you, it's usually not that hard to just take them down before they get to you. I'm all for suicide bombing, it's just fun sometimes, and games should be fun. I'm never pissed if a suicide bomber gets me. He took him/herself out to get me so I just figure that I did my part

Well if it is included in the game I would hope it is a one-time-use ..um..hmm..item?, that you need to purchase it everytime to use it. It would need to be equipped to use, with a cooldown after you equip it. Maybe you can't use it for 30 seconds after it has been equiped. That way you can't just select it from you inventory while in battle and boom! It has to be pre-meditated not random. Also a graphic like, oh i dunno, a string of dynamite across the bomber's chest would be cool, so that way other players know what is coming and have a chance to react.

A 30 sec cooldown wouldn't be too bad. It would definitely help with the whole spam issue if you had to take up one of your armor slots for a self destruct button (good point that it should be pre-meditated).
I don't know about the graphic though, unless it's like a little patch on your arm or chest that just kind of lets people know you're crazy. Something like a big arrow over head is a little too much imo. And at the same time, unless you get a good amount of kills (which isn't guaranteed) you'll be committing suicide so you'll get negative points for that (if they follow the usual FPS rules i guess). So that alone would curb a lot of the people who just want to blow themselves up over and over, and kind of save it for those who would actually use it strategically (suicide bombing sounds lame when talking about strategy, but it does have its uses).
