Is Huxley going to have any twinking in it?
For those of you that don't know what twinking is, basically putting extra time, money, and effort into a character to help them equip extremely high level gear, so they have the upperhand against other players in their level range. Twinking usually takes several days or even months and you often need a calculator and notepad at your side. I'm from anarchy online and the twinking in that game was the most in depth and hardcore i've ever seen. |

I doubt it'll be worth the effort in Huxley. It seems more and more evident that the majority of real hardcore PVP will be happening with people who've reached the level cap already. And you'll level relatively fast, so it's not like you'll be the same level for a month fighting vs other people of the same level. You're better off spending time just playing through and maxing your levels, and then getting better equipment AND more skills.

Wow is a gear based game, Huxley is not. "Twinking" in Huxley won't be a problem with balance like it is in Wow. There will very probably be higher level characters handing out good weapons to the lower ones considering the fact that they may just be fighting next to them and a better weapon could save their own ass.
People are probably going to be making new characters all the time to try out different play styles so they'll always be a market for lower levels to get some gear from higher levels. Even the E3 video on Huxley talked about higher levels giving lower a better gun. Oh, and quotes from wiki: "Twinking is a term used in computer role-playing games to describe a low level playing style. A player who engages in twinking is known as a twink." "Twink (gay slang), a young or young-looking male homosexual"

Yeah, you're totally wrong.
Twinking as they're talking about is working for hours and spending a shitload of ingame money to get the very best possible gear in the game for their characters, usually at a low level. They basically throw money at the character to compensate for their lack of skill so that it's physically impossible to not kill a person in a 1v1 without them being a twink themselves.

very well explained ... in the first thread i wasnt sure , but i know what it means now. That wud be ok to a certain point, But i dont think the game wud be fun if as soon as i started people gave me shithot stuff and i cud kill everyone on my level just for being in their clan or whatever, but i mean fair enough some people like that.

When you equip all the best gear on a low or mid leve character, it's not to make up for lack of skill. It's to compete with other people who are doing the exact same thing. The non-twinks that try to compete and just get slaughterd... well... that's their own fault. Think of it like a self imposed special forces title. haha |

I'm glad that from what we've seen, that won't happen in Huxley, or not to the extent you're suggesting anyways |

Thing is randin, a person who's confident in their skills doesn't need to partake in twinking. It's those that think they'll be beat and that they must twink themselves that are compensating for insecurity.
But then again that's a gear based game where a player's skill no longer matters due to gear. Which is where the twinking comes in. In Huxley they've repeated many times that the gear will not determine the outcome of a battle, it is skill that matters.

Diablo lent itself to Twinking, since gear made the character. But level restrictions kept it in check. Let's not confuse Twinking with Power-Leveling. In Diablo, I'd sometimes have my high-levels drop gold and low-level gear for my new characters, just to get them started. My mules would hold gear for when they leveled up. Some characters I'd just have them play 'as is', using only the gear they found themselves. I never was into power-leveling in Diablo. City of Heroes was a power-leveling mill, if you had the right missions. (How many of you sat on the rock in the 'wolf mission' while a fire tanker repeatedly cleared the level?)
Ah yes, how can I forget spending hours and hours planning out the perfect assignment of skill points. No point wasted, no skill un-needed. Then the Nerf Bat (tm) swings and makes your character utterly useless. The pain! The wailing! The gnashing of teeth! Re-roll time. I'm sure some enterprising guilds will find the ultimate, fastest method to twink and power-level their characters in Huxley. Last edited by Magnus; 26-09-2006 at 05:06 PM. |

after reading all this looks like twinking wud not be a good idea unless it is undercontrol. even if the game is " skill " based . In far cry if u have double guns you can take out players way past your skill level. hence if someone has a way better gun then someone else theres only soo many things you can do no matter what skill level you have

yes but how would a new player get an awsome gun in the first place, someone would have to give it to them, and if that will be how Huxley is, than it will not be much fun at all. It shouldn't be only about the gun, it should be a combination of skill and other stuff, like weapons. I trust Webzen to balance Huxley, because it is in their interests if they wanna have good sales.
