Well, they've specifically said that higher levels can give low levels better guns they wouldn't normally be able to get. And right after that they've said that the weapons and armor won't determine the outcome of a fight. So we have to assume that they are dealing with this.

Generally with people that twink, it's not that they don't want to use their fighting skills, but they mow over the non-twinks, and have to use their entire potential against other twinks.
But yah i just don't think it would be benefitial in this sort of environment unless you are pitting level 10 twinks against level 50 players. hehe |

Twinking is expensive time consuming and stupid. I had to deal with alot of twinks in wow. I don't tihnk itll be much of a problem in huxley since it isbased more on the persons skills than their gear. Supposeably in huxley it wouldn't be impossible for a good low lvl char to take out a high lvl one. That is not how it works in gear dependent games like wow.

Well from what I gathered from the first interviews and what not this game will be "Skill Based". When they said that they meant the players skill (you). They said a measly level 10 could take out a level 50 guy if he has enough skill to do it. Now I think equipment will be a huge factor in the game as well, but I also think (the way I am hearing it from the interview) that you could have the most godly armor, helmet, gun, whatever. But if a kickass level one comes down your way, he can kick your ass. This is what I am hoping for because I hate it when some ten year old screams into my xbox live mic telling me he has better armor than me and pwns my ass while laughing (though I must say it sounds like a screach.)
So if that same 10 year old meets me in THIS game, all I have to say is good luck little buddy. Your maceroni filled ass is mine! |

lol connnnn i know exactly what you're talking about. Xbox live has been taken over by spoiled little 10 year olds (no offence to the cool 10 year olds out there, I'm only 4 years older) but yeah, having a little kid kick your ass is infuriating, especially when he isn't any good at said game

I would think that special weapons would only be available to use for players that have spent the credit on learning the required skill. For example, if you want to snipe you would use your earned money-points-lunarites to learn sniping. I would think that if you had not learned sniping you could not just pick up a sniper rifle and start using it because somebody handed it to you. I really do not think there will be weapons available to people who lack the required learned skills to use them.
One thing I think you guys are missing here is the pace of a true FPS game. You WILL die often. You will probably not loose you gear because you die. You will probably be sent back to the nearest spawn point to grab your gear at some sort of gear terminal near the spawn point to begin your journey into battle again. There will probably be certain classes for different types of weapons and inter species looting will occur but you would probably still not be able to use a looted weapon in a class you had not spent the money-points-lunarites to learn. It would be a shame if you had to work for any significant time after being killed to get back to the battle, so I'm assuming the spawn points will be plentiful in most areas (with exceptions for quest type environments). The only way to assure that money for skills is not handed out would be to require that player to achieve a certain amount of non trade able points to buy the new skills. Making them have to kill the PvE creatures or PvP players themselves to gain points would probably fix this to some extent. |

I hate to say this, but reading these last few posts leads me to the belief that you haven't read any of the interviews or watched any of the information videos about Huxley. Villain seems to be pulling alot of things out of his ass while speculating about what might be in the game, while those specific points have already been stated how the systems will work. (Some of the few that have)
As for lenson, go read one of the articles about how the class system will work. Half of that article is wrong and the other half is guesswork. Anybody can train and use any weapon, no matter the class, no matter the race. The one exception, the lighter races won't be able to use the heaviest weapons, and if they change and allow it, they won't be able to use them well.

Shooting someone while positioned a large distance away from them, stationary, and making them large by zooming in on them is NOT hard, even if the scope is moving.

I've not run into a single FPS game where the ranges ingame were enough to make sniping hard. None of the half life maps do, only a couple UT maps have done this, but due to volume fog sniping at those ranges was impossible. There may be mods out where they've tried to making sniping hard, but I've not run into one. A little bit of sway? Don't joke.

I see a HUGE problem with that, because they said you could kill a level 50 guy at level 1 if your good enough. Think about this, you have spent a bit trying to get the license for this weapon...and ding!! You got it!!! Then you enter a game and get your ass killed by a level 5 who can take the weapon now! Can anyone say pissed off nerds?

Villain, yes. That is the way it seems to me. But I think there may be classes of weapons, not just training certain weapons. So it might just be possible that you haven't used that specific weapon yourself but it falls under the class and thus you can use it. Rare probably, but possible.
As for slither, I can say stupid nerd. If "he" thinks just because he spent alot of time trying to get a weapon he should automatically win, he's an idiot. The whole game is based around the fact that no matter your level you still need to be on your toes because a "lowbie" can still rip you up. And if he doens't realize that, then yes, he's a stupid "nerd."

Lol slither, I like that. I am not saying that he can't be beaten. I just don't see a dropping mechanic where when you die your gun drops and someone can pick it up. If they had some specialized events like an arena I can see that. But in a regular firefight it would be littered with sweet ass guns for level 1's and such to pick up. Quests would be next to useless if their rewards were guns or equipment.

The battleground fighting will be segregated by levels, probably per 10 levels like they have said in interviews. So you're fighting against people who will be dropping the same range of weapons, usually.
What would be worse than letting people loot your good weapon is not letting them loot your good weapon. They are steering the game towards pvp that is not gear based. Making people go and PvE all the time in order to get a "great" weapon just to compete would be stupid. (And they have said that this will not be happening) So continuing along that vein we come to looting. Somebody who works for a time to get a quest reward weapon and isn't good at PvP should not be rewarded by restricting the people who are actually good. When you start rewarding people for gear farming you start down a slippery slope that leads the game away from PvP.

They haven't mentioned a crafting engine yet, and all these weapons have to come from somewhere. It's gotta be either quest rewards of some sort, or just straight up NPC buys (or some sort of crafting-type system we haven't been told of yet).
Have they specifically confirmed that certain areas will have limited entry based on levels? I know we've pretty much assumed that's a very likely possibility for many reasons, but did they actually state it somewhere yet? |
