I really hope that their servers are robust. IMO, both FPS (Frames per second) and ping have a huge impact on your gameplay. |

correct me if i'm wrong but---
doesn't xbox live require broadband? while PC gamers can play on whatever connection they can get? that would mean that xbox players will all have a good standard of connectivity while there may be some PC players with sub-par ping. in FFXI, it was optimized so that even if you have 56k dailup, you'd still enteract at roughly the same time as everyone else. it would never really turn into failure in a battle. but for something like a first person shooter, they can't slow everyone down for a dailup user. and even the difference between DSL to broadband would mean victory or defeat in some cases. |

I hate lag. Some games are worse than others though.
But games like BF2...The lag doesn't do to much.... You just got to get used to the lag and aim better...Like I would be a sniper on BF2 and unless you were not the American and had the audo sniper you couldn't shoot anything far away unless you had good ping at the time. What makes you lag are routers. If you have more than one computer on and your using a router thats not a gaming/gig one then your dead. I couldn't even play WoW which can run on 56k dial-up when I have the fastest cox you can get! Then one day I unplug my router and run through the modem and BOOM! Not one bad ping. And I'm talking about America's army not WoW. But it is more of the server. I just hope this game isn't like warrock. That game has the worst servers EVER! |

It depends how ping is handled. Planetside's model (client-side hit detection) would probably be the best UNLESS servers are set up in all major regions.
I'm from Australia and unless a server is set up specifically for the Oceanic Region, I should expect a minimum of a 250 ms ping to US West, 350 minimum to Europe. To answer your question gobbly2100, ping will be an issue initially and there will always be moments where I will think "damn, if we were on even grounds I could have won that" but it's something I've come to expect from MMO's and I would eventually adapt. That is, if a server isn't set up to cover the Australian/New Zealand region. Otherwise, sweet! Then it shouldn't matter at all as everyone in the region would have the same advantage. Ping schming, as long as you have a computer with atleast min specs & broadband connection...there shouldn't be any issues. Instead of having it set up by region, maybe they should have it by connection type, LOL.

Haha the only time i complain about Ping ng FPS games is when somebody n the apartment (got 3 comps in total) starts downloading something, then i get ping above 500-1000 and the super rapid movement. But there is another thing that ennoys me even more the ping, that's my graphic card, i don't get the rapid movement but i get something even more ennoying, and thats "Swiming" movement, you pull you weapon right when you want it to stop it keeps "swiming" to the right and past the enemy. Still i play with my supa lag graphic card BF2142 and i get medals almost each time in a round. But sometimes i want to smash the comp extremely hard though.
So it's not only Ping that bothers ya, it's Graphics too. =)

Well look at this for an example - Me and a friend went 2v2 in WoW arena. He sat RIGHT next to me in real life and when I moved it took about 1-2 seconds to register on his comp. That isn't too bad having 200 ping - but it could have been faster.

i'm actually very concerned about Ping. Back around 2001-2002 A german company called Reakktor released their version of a MMOFPS, Neocron. I thought that the concept of a Sci-Fi fps MMO was amazing and was frustrated at how the game story and progression was amazingly addictive, but the game mechanics sucked so bad. The game engine sucked and every server world could only hold about 600-800 users before the whole thing started lagging. The way the game was made, you would move about 5 minutes then you would zone into the next portion of the game world. It was annoying as hell thinking about it, especially seeing how seamless WoW is. Anyway, the only servers this game had were located in Germany. This game was released world wide. I was part of a clan full of americans with 200+ pings who fought for territorial control against clans from ireland and germany and the UK. Long story made short, the Ping difference was what won and lost skirmishes. Personally, I refuse to play any fps that has ping higher than 60. The difference is very noticeable and the LPB will always have a clear advantage during PvP. Granted its 6-8 years later and broadband is dirt cheap compared to the rediculous prices of yesteryear, still, being that this game is Korean, i highly doubt i will find it enjoyable if I have to connect to a server in Korea to play the game. HOWEVER, if you awesome dudes find a way to code amazing networking to the game, and i can connect across the world with a ping of under 100. I definitely will play. Being the competitive bas&()&(*^(* i am, i know eventually i will be frustrated with ping being that I own a 5 meg broadband connection and a very high end computer to deal with hardware handicaps. Will Huxley host servers in the US? Will they be coastal? When I used to play wow i joined an east coast server and my ping was still around 250 (wow networking code) Even in that game, where fps and aim isnt really needed, ping was a huge factor in your success during a bad situation.

Or you dive behind a sandbag and still get blasted because the server has not yet registered your dive but your client has so it looks like your being shot through the walls. There's no way to make it fair to ppl who have high ping they must compensate their aim or use strategies that require less accuracy like remote explosives or something that takes them away from a 1vs1 gunfight they will lose against someone with lower ping most of the time. If you play FPS PVP a good connection is a must. |
