Ya I think of ultimate PvP as being a few instanced battles and large territory battles (like contested territory in WoW). The instanced battles would be battles for a city which would affect the fight for the countryside surrounding it, like give a bonus to the people who held the city.

What I would really like would be a good base battle, where a 100 players are attacking a base, while 100 are defending.

Hopefully one of those servers contains a castle, compound, or something, with large walls to shoot from, and 1000s of hybrid coming from all directions. If I named it, it would be the "Obsidian Siege" because Obsidian Imperials would be the defenders.

hybrid chops anyone? mmmm hot 100 on 100 action on NPC action. Gotta get me some of that.

Do you think that Huxley should be a little like PS in setup? I.E bases give bonuses and spawn points to area of fighting. Also what kind of field fortifications should there be? Trenches? Shields? Definitely land mines.

I sure hope it's like PS during it's golden days, when there were 50 people charging a door, a couple terrans with minichainguns mowing them down, until they finally break through, then your fighting for your lives, shooting down the stairs, trying to stop their advance, but to no avail. They keep coming. You then become cut off from the respawn room. The respawners are fighting for their lives, while you just have to stay alive long enough for some reinforcements.

Of course sometimes, no reinforcments came, everyone dies, and the base belongs to the enemy. Sometimes there is a retaliatory strike, but usually we just move on to the next big battle.

i was under the idea that outside of the main cities, everything is instanced. so when big battles are getting started, people from both sides sign up for the battle and get warped/flown/transported to the battle site like guild wars or WoW. if that is the case then a pvp server would allow you to kill teammates in your home town. that doesnt sound too fun. no reason for pvp servers.

I don't think they will have any types of PvE/PvP only servers. This game is made so that you HAVE to PvP and PvE. With the two different ranking trees that you have to go up. One for PvE and one for PvP. So if you PvE for so long then you reach a level where you can't gain anymore exp. and you have to go PvP.

I don't really see why anyone would play this game only for PvE anyway, I mean I'm sure it will be pretty fun to fight off an insane amount of monsters headed your way, but still, they even said PvP will be the main focus.

And just to join in the excitment of wanting huge crazy battles:
I'm freaking out thinking about crazy 100 vs 100 PvP battles. Ones where there are actually front lines and stuff like that. Where the enforcers are holding the line, putting down crazy amounts of fire while 50 other enforcers charge the enemy lines, guns blazing and ready to rip heads off.

Mass attacks are the best thing ever! I would love to see some of the PvP battle areas focused on, if you are trying to attack a certain area to take it over, then you have to attack a huge base that the other faction controls. They could set up defense and all that crazy stuff, and there would be a huge charge on the base, that always makes for good fun :D.

I'm just one of many who hopes there will be plenty of awesome huge fights. Especially some that have a distinct front line where the fighting is really intense it kind of goes back and forth between the enemy pushing forward and you pushing back. Those are always awesome.

I think the battlegrounds should be like a whole new world like the city, where you can kill someone one second, and be killed the next!

All this talk of gametypes, there IS going to be a point to TDM, right? The main point is not going to be "reach the kill count" right? Because that is lame. I want to know victory when I crush my opponent's base, not when I have "killed just the right amount!"

At any rate, there seem to be 3 main categories that apply to both FPS and RPG, and they are as follows:

Carebear: opposes PvP of any sort, even if it's just friendly competition with a friend. wants only to go storyline and PvE content without being bothered by other players. carebare players of the FPS genre traditionally enjoy the single player campaign modes of thier FPS games, a good example being the single player FPS Metroid Prime for game cube, and a few good examples of an FPS with multiplayer enabled modes but have good single player campaigns that such players enjoy would be Halo, Aliens Vs. Predator 2, and Doom 3. (FPS does not always mean PvP)

Consensual PVPers: These people enjoy PvP, however at thier leisure, meaning it has to be consensual between all participating, no PvP out of nowhere or catching anyone unaware that there is player-controlled enemies. These types usually enjoy Consensually played Deathmatches, CTF matches and the like against human opponents when they feel like PvPing. Sometimes they'll like to jump into free for all arena areas when playing an MMO for the fun of it. While this category does enjoy PvP, they do not want to have to worry about PvP all the time so much as PvP at thier own leisure and consent.

Hardcore PvPers: This category would prefer nowhere to be safe, and wants the possibility of PvP to be found anywhere, sometimes to the extreme that they want only human players to exist and no computer controlled or scripted opponents of any kind; such PvP extremists want PvP to be able to occur whether or not thier opponent likes it, even if they are the ones being caught off guard.

Personally I fit into the consensual PvPer category so alot of instanced stuff works out just fine for me, I'm sure to appease everyone there will be certain entire territories where anyone may enter without warning and attack other players in that territory (all out all PVP enabled areas pretty much), also possibly some PvE missions where the two opposing sides are working to capture the same resource or objective - I'd say it's likely to catch the opposing team off guard while they are trying to haul the mission objective off to thier side.

- Sephie
Go hard or go home :P

there should be full out pvp as this should be the basis of this type of game, if you want to quest go find and instance

Personally i love PvP but, sometimes i just can't be bothered with tenyearolds going all mad and screaming, im not that kind of person, there for i'd like to have an alternative, that is PvE. It's always fun to just hang around and do some mindless shooting while having a hot discussion about something else but tactics. I really don't think i am the only one to think so....

As always there are those who love PvP OR PvE, but i don't think that one should exclud the option of choosing between PvP or PvE. That's just my personal opinion, and i back it up with the argument that one should NEVER be forced to something that you don't like.

They said there will be PvP and PvE. You can go into an instance with just PvE if you want to and play your heart out. That makes it so they don't need to have different servers. They made the game so you have to at least to a little of both anyway, so if each can be seperated in game then theres no need to seperate servers.

I fully agree with that, but the level system could be separated perhaps? At least so that you can't bring your PvE level to PvP games, but perhaps bring your PvP exp to PvE.... does that make any sense?
