Default PvP Battles

Hey everyone, very nice site and forums you got here
I just thought I'd ask this question here since I can't find anyone talking about PvP battle aspect in this sense. I know the battles will be instanced which I think is unfortunate unless the outcome of the battles actually had a noticeable affect on the "persistant" world of Huxley. Long question short will these huge 200 vs 200 battles actually have meaning and payoff? Or just a large scale online death match? It sounds to me like the only persistant areas of this game are the main cities where people simply meet up or trade; I guess what I'm "hoping" for is the kind of persistant world planetside had; a real persistant game that you could round up some of your friends or clanmates and plan a real raid against a persistant enemy player base or stronghold.

I know there are no definate answers to what I'm asking but I figured it a suitable discussion; or if anyone knows something I don't.

Well, if you're looking for a "persistant" world like planetside, you need to rethink your priorities. Planetside was a group of instanced DM servers that had almost no impact on each other. There was no point of capturing the continents at the end of the day, no use in capturing a base beyond being able to move onto the next base to grind at.

From what it sounds like the large battles will determine the outcome of the resources found within the mines at these locations. What these resources do and how the power plants affect the rest of the world we don't know. What we do know is that the devs have said they're working on making the fighting more meaningful instead of the useless waste of time that Planetside was. And yes, they played planetside and have said they don't want to repeat that game's mistakes.

We really don't know what the world outside of the battlegrounds will be like, what the areas will be whether instances or open area like WoW style areas. We do know what missions will take place there but beyond that they're been a steady reporting of, well, nothing. So it's basically speculation.

The only clues we have right now to the world beyond the 2 main cities is that when the xbox version is released the xbox players will have their own third city that is seperate from the 2 to start. At least that's what the spokespeople at E3 in 2006 said during their presentation.

To be honest, I never played planetside very much so I was unaware of it's problems; but thanks for sharing the info about the battles deciding mineral resources, that's all I wanted for this game is for the battles to be meaningful instead of just deathmatch points.

I wonder how many pvp BattleZones there will be. Also if they made it like chromehounds where lots of diff fights are going on, on the same map and each victory gains points for that faction and loss looses points. The point in chromehounds was to take over the city but what in huxley what if you were trying to controll the battlefeild around their capital city and every day you own a battlefeild you get a split up ammount of resources and if you own the battlefield around the enimies capital they get no roesources while that battlefeild gives you double that a regular battlefield would give.

if huxley were like WoW it would directly compete with WoW, and be ruined because WoW has more or less a monopoly on mmorpg players right now.
i cant think of any other MMO that has 1,000,000 or more active players.

huxley needs to be distinguishingly different (and better) to steal away some of WoW's crowd.

you cant really compare huxley and wow. I mean WoW is a completely different genre and has more of a "level grind" type of feeling. with wow you get high level characters dominating everything and being d-bags. but with huxley it sounds like you need some skill to progress. hence the fps part of the game coming into play. the only thing that leveling up gets you is licenses which give you extra abilities and stuff. but they dont increase your general skill in an fps world.

WoW is an RPG. Huxley is a FPS. You can't compare them. I agree with kilroy! in that aspect. In fact, I agree with kilroy about his whole paragraph.

never said it was the same i said it shouldn't be the same in response to the dude that suggested that huxley should b just like WoW (i think i quoted him). And mostly for the reasons you listed.

in the news section, webzen said that the result of battles would effect the world in real time. the example was something like this, a big battle results in team A losing control of a fuel source so the nearby base/power plant's defenses go down. if the power plant is taken then the lights will go out in parts of the main city.

so, yes the battles will effect what happens in the persistent world. there are just more types of battles than what PS had.

Ok, so the battles change the amount of resources we get and some power that we get in the city? Good to hear that battles do at least something.

Does anyone know if the battles will effect a persistant world as in a world map that the factions try to take control of?

Say I'm in a huge battle and we storm the enemy base or whatever and capture all of the points. After we win that battle, will we then be in control of that zone, with a world map showing how much our faction controls and all of that. and if the enemy wants the zone back that have to come in and start fighting for it?

If anyone has ever played Shattered Galaxy, that game has a system kind of like that, where you zone into instanced battlezones and fight the other factions, whoever wins that battle gets control of the zone. It's a pretty old game and you can download and play it for free if you want at sgalaxy.com
its a pretty fun game and the idea behind it (I think anyway) is completely amazing.

Even though each battle is instanced, you don't even notice because each instance is layed out on a world map and you have to travel to them to get to the fights. When you win a battle there, you get control of the zone and the enemy has to come and fight to get it back. The game is a 24/7 all out war between 3 factions fighting for the most land they can get.

I really hope theres something like that in Huxley, I've been wanting that in a video game for a really long time. If anyone has any more info on how the battles effect the persisten world, the main cities, how we get money, and if theres a world map we try to get control of, let me know :D]

Thanks a bunch

there isnt too much information but the little that webzen has released has suggested that much of the fighting will be over resources. so i can only assume that there will be a reward for taking and holding resources and a penalty for loosing control otherwise why would people be fighting over it. we have heard of some of the smaller shootouts inside of mines and factories. this is one of the problems with planetside, there is nothing gained or lost as a result of the battles.

they have to be careful. if the team that is winning gets stronger and stronger the loosing team might not be able to come back. there is so little information we can only speculate.

thanks for the info. it's nice to know the battles will for sure mean something. And I'm assuming that if battles decide who controls certain recources, then those areas will be considered under the control of that faction. Which seems pretty much like capturing that point on them map.

And hopefully there will be something to keep one side from getting too strong. Does anyone know how the resources will effect the game? Such as, if my faction takes control of "X" factory which gains us certain gatherings of resources, do we get to see a benefit from that, as in more money to buy stuff or more materials to make stuff? Or does it just kind of play into the story where we want to overall get the most resources and win the war.

I know there isn't much new information out there and everyone has questions, but again I'd apreciate anything anyone knows
