Well, my first post on the Huxley forums.
Here are some interesting idea's for servers. A Euro-American server. I think we should make a Euro-American server because well, despite the lag its an enjoyable experience, playing with your European or American friends. Server Switching, would it be possible to use in-game money to use as a permit to switch servers? or, a bad solution but still possible. :( :( :( A number of servers in your region. (NO) |

First of all, welcome Rerg!
Secondly, I think that the idea is awesome, but due to extreme pingtimes between the two continents that this isn't doable. This is after all an FPS-game, which depends heavily on two things, fps (as in frames per second) and low pingtimes. Give it 10 years or so when the connections are a lot faster, then we'll talk about this. |

Yeah, I can tell you I can't wait to.
Then there will be again.. Next-Gen games. Wasn't there some super glass fiber optic cable for High-Speed net? And thanks for the welcome. But, I've played an FPS with Americans me being European and I havent noticed an extreme difference. Than again being in Europe sucks. Germans and Dutchies (inc. me) everywhere. Guess I'll be playing on the U.K server despite being Dutch. (English is my first language). Maybe one Euro-American server will be made maily for socialising. Meh, I'll try to. But than if not, of to that U.K server. And thanks for the welcome. |

Europeans ping pretty well to the US (compared to the other way around). I've seen Dutch players ping 100 to Chicago, while i was pinging the same :|
I'm not sure exactly how they'll deal with different servers, etc, but if they just have totally separate ones for different regions, it wouldn't surprise me if there is 1 international one for people who don't mind dealing with a higher ping. |

we can expect to see east and west coast US server hubs an asian server hub and a euro server hub. It would be cool to have international servers but the ping times are going to be a problem. It could also be that all server hubs are open to all players but that is unlikely as they already have the9 setup to run the asian server hub. and since they have only said that the9 will be managing the asian server hubs (with their own pay scales and like) we can assume that another company will be running the other server hubs. since it would be impossible to track all the players across all the servers when they are being managed by different companies.

even with an extremely fast connection, it takes a fraction of a second for information to travel at the speed of light from the west coast of the US to eastern europe. there is just no way around the need for regional servers.

Get a friend to hold a pencil above your hand just at the tip.
The Pencil will go through your hand because your brain has to tell the muscles to move and so on. Thats still good for servers and I think computers can be faster than that. Think again. |

Well, I guess my theory that the internet knew no lag when you had broadband was false. Oh well. Anyway, I hate lag. I'm a lag nazi. I yell at laggers. I kill them until they don't want to play anymore. That's the reason I'm going to have a petition to make Huxley only available to people with high speed internet. But, as long as people in europe that play on American servers have no lag, than I'm happy.
KILL THE LAGGERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

I have basicly a flawless connection here in Sweden. I'm on a 100/100Mbit connection all by myself and it's extremely stable. This makes me spoiled. I don't want to play on servers where I lag. If I join a server in the states I definitely would lag, 100 ms isn't okay for me. I'm ping-Hitler.

I think that once this gets released, we will soon find out the netcode for this game and it's ability for intercontinental gameplay.
As long as it gets released, I am okay with whoever is playing and where they live. |

European ISPs tend to be better than their American counterparts. I am supposed to get 1.5Mbps but I usually get 100kbs. They haven't fixed at all and I've given up all hope.

The US is way behind much of the rest of the industrialized world with respect to broadband (and most communications technologies). It's not a technology thing itself; it's more of a business structure problem. Why and who to blame is a whole other debate, but the fact is that routing is terrible so it's really not just as easy as "getting a good ISP", because usually a new ISP just uses the same infrastructure. If FIOS can continue to put some competitive pressure on the rest of the industry we might see better options, but for the most part you're stuck with 1 or 2 providers in any given area, and there's nothing you can do if they both suck or if there's simply no high-bandwidth infrastructure in place in your location.

Back on to the idea of servers, heres my idea.
First off if we are going to have PC and Xbox 360 gamer connected together i would suggest adding a few PC only and Xbox 360 only servers for those not wanting to play against a different control method. I do like the idea of a euro-US server so i can play with my friend from across the sea. But because of the would be lag problem i would give people on this server the option to transfere their character off that server for free at anytime. It's better to lose a little money off a free transfere than lose a customer due to their growing hate of lag. As for Languages for us europeans (and i guess the US also as they have a lot of non-English speaking people too) i would stick with the usual way of defining the servers, with Lanuages plus PvP/Normal/RP(role play). For example: <server name> Eng-PvP <server name> Eng-Normal <server name> Eng-RP That would be your stanard set up for English (Eng) speaking servers. Anyone wanting to speak mostly English would use one of these servers. The same idea can apply to other language servers too. But we can't have too many servers or they will never get enough people per server to get a good economy going. or a wide either selection of people to team up with. I'd personally would like to see 5 servers per Language. for (an english) example: <server name> Eng-PC-Xbox360 <server name> Eng-Euro-US <server name> Eng-PvP <server name> Eng-Normal <server name> Eng-RP |

Yes the focus of Huxley is PvP and huge PvP battles. There won't be many (if any at all) instanced boss battles. So it saves server space and allows for bigger worlds when you don't have different kinds of servers.
