Default Things I Am Hoping For In Huxley

hey everyone, im new to the forums. i can't wait for this game. everything i hear about it leads me to believe this game will friggin rock. here are a few things that i would like to see in the game.

agility in the players. every FPS i have ever played that has been fun has had a good movement system. i hate fps that feel like i am controlling a mini tank or something like a guy in a wheelchair. people are very agile things, espically people who are getting shot at. jump/sprint/straife/crouch are all mandatory, if all of those arent in the game in some form or another i will look elsewhere for fun gameplay. also, you should be able to do any combination of those at the same time. nothing is worse than a game where my gun dissapears when i am jumping. some other movement device like lean or dive or roll would be nice, just to add something to gameplay. obviously the lighter classes will be more agile.

diversity in weapons. i am expecting a good variety in weapons, and i dont mean 12 kinds of shotguns. obviously there will be rockets, shotguns, single shot/semi/full auto rifles. it would be nice to have melee weapons, some non-line of sight flak cannon would be cool. use your imagination, if it can be balanced into the game i want it. the more unique and different the better. it would be nice if the close quarters submachinegun had a higher sensativity than the 50 lbs 1 hit kill sniper rifle. gives each gun a different feel.

no uber items. the problem i have with every MMO is items. its not fun to go camp up a named boss for 5 hours in the hope that he will drop the god item that makes my weapon do 50% more damage. the winner of a firefight should be the one with the most skill and teamwork, not the least amount of a life. hopefully they wont ruin the game with overpowered items.

skill based gameplay. this is kind of hard to define. a good game is fun when you pick it up. a great game gets more fun the better you get at it. the good players will always be better, they will do things that everyone else calls cheap. "exploiting" bugs in a game is very subjective. every game i have ever played people have called me cheap or not realistic or whatever. anything you do to give yourself an advatage in a game, someone will think is 'not in the spirit of the game'. the spirit of the game is to win. a good game (which i am hoping this will be) makes it so that the best way to play the game is also the most fun.

it can be tempting to try to tweak the game so that the best players arent THAT much better than the begginers. this will kill a game. there are many ways to try to cap the skill of players. some of these include inaccurate, unpowerful weapons, slower and simpler player movement, bungie cord gameplay (thats where the side that is loosing, get an advantage). all of these lead to a shallow gameplay experience. guns should be as accurate as the player who is firing them, if you need to balance some guns to be less effective long or short range, then have the damage drop off with range. obviously a shotgun should not be the best weapon to take on the sniper at the end of the ally. the more accurate and powerful the weapons, the steeper the learning curve. a game with 1 hit kill perfectly accurate semi auto rifles will allow a good player to kill dozens of lesser opponents if he is good enough. in a game with innacurate single shot 3 hit kill weapons, luck plays a bigger roll in deciding the winner and even the best players will rarely be able to kill more than 1 opponent in a life. i prefer the latter, a steep learing curve is brutal to new players but in the end it delivers a better, deeper gameplay experience that keeps you coming back for more. nothing is lamer than 2 guys in the same room jumping around emptying multipul clips at each other before someone dies because the guns take 20 hits to kill. if the game is like that i will find another game to play.

here are a few pitfalls that i hope this game will avoid.

rock/paper/scissors effect. a little difficult to explain. if team A brings uses strategy we will call ROCK, and team B doesnt use strat PAPER, they should still have a chance to adapt and win. with dozens of skills and dozens of players on a team, this is unlikely to happen, but you can never tell how gameplay is going to evolve. the game Guild Wars sometimes has this problem, there are 2 teams of 8 players with 8 skills each but the match is often over before it has even begun because one team is using ROCK and the other is using PAPER. they just got lucky and brought the counter on that day. sometimes the skill of the teams is not the most important factor in determining the winner.

overpowered vehicles. infantry should not be 'guys who havent gotten in vehicles yet'. games where infantry are uneffective against vehicles are not fun. the best application for vehicles are mobility and firepower. if it doesnt bring your squad somewhere faster or bring a big gun with it, it should not be in the game. if its a tank that few weapons can do anything to, its not good for gameplay. its a bad sign if you have to bring a anti vehicle specialists who stays in the back until the APC starts to wipe out your team.

overly simplified gameplay. if i feel like i have mastered the game after the first month i will stop playing. deep multiplayer gameplay doesnt require super complicated controls, but it helps.

mandatory boring pve. i am playing to play against other people, not a stupid bug ridden AI npc. i find most single player games boring, thats why i dont play them. i hope i dont have to spend endless hours getting random squads together to frag zerglings. i just want to compete against other players. i hope there is NO mandatory PVE, you should be able to unlock everything and advance thru the game while only playing multiplayer.

xbox players on the same servers as pc players. i know this is flamebait but generally speaking, console people are more immature. it will be tough enough to find competant teammates as it is and i dont want to have to deal with someone who doesnt have a mouse and keyboard. there is no way any FPS i would want to play would allow someone with a handheld controller be as good as someone with a mouse and keyboard. i know for a fact that if i played against the best halo player in the world, him with a controller and me with a mouse and keyboard, i would own him over and over at a game i never play. it is a fact, mouse and keyboard >>> controller.

if they are on the same servers, then i know they wont be on my team. so it will be just easy and unrewarding kills for me.

i hope to hear some response and input from people. feel free to critize my ideas, hopefully we can have an intelligent discussion about what the game should be. its not unreasonable to expect that the game creators will read some of the forums from time to time so tell them what you want in a game, how else will they know?

Ok in respond to YOUR long winded post here's mine.

1. Speed is good as long as it varies with the armor you wear. If you have light phantom armor, you should move faster than an enforcer. Otherwise it's total BS.

2. Weapon diversity is always good. Also customizing weapons would be a huge plus. As in finding a better scope for a sniper rifle and being able to add it to the sniper rifle you have.

3. God items and powers are lame. An extremely powerful weapon should not have to be made. Some weapons have to be more powerful than others but that is how it should be so low level characters don't get insane weapons.

4. Yes this game should be "twitch" gameplay meaning that you need to act more than rely on a prescripted action.

5. This is pretty much the same as nerfing. If the game designers don't make things equal in the beginning, people will complain and the designers will nerf that class or race making it useless.

6. Rock paper scissors gameplay is unlikely to occur in huxley unless you are talking about short medium long range guns, which there should be. Not much you can put in between and there is definitely not going to be a sniper shotgun.

7. Tanks should have good armor and movement. Not overdoing it is the key and unfortunately the hard part.

8. How hard is it to point and shoot?

9. PvE shouldn't be mandatory for higher levels. Lower level or newer characters should have some PvE first to give them an idea on how to function in Huxley.

10. For one thing you will not be able to PvP with 360 players so that ends that complaint.

Just don't be as annoying as Decent and you'll be fine.

dude i mostly agree about what your saying apart from the 360 and controller thing see i play games on both my xbox 360 and my computer and all modesty aside im quite good at both controllers and keyboards so you cant say that you could always beat a controller user just because you have a keyboard also you cant just steriotype all console players as immature because you dont know what all console players are like and you cant avoid putting console players on your team just because they play on a console thats discrimination.

with a mouse i have very close to perfect aim instantly, i was cal-i in CS, DOD and just rediculously good at quake and UT. its not possible to aim instantly with a little joy stick on a controller. it just doesnt let you spin 180 degrees and pull the HS in 3/10 of a sec.

its not that a mouse gives you better aim, its just that i can make corrections, big or small, pretty close to instantly. in any game where i can kill people with 1 or 2 hits, the person with the controller has zero chance. at the very least they are at a disadvantage.

it is true that not all console people are going to be immature, not all pc players are mature. from my experience, 2-3% of players are ready for actual competative play. its more about understanding what it will take to be competative than actual skill, i can make any player willing to listen and put in the time very good. most people are just dont understand that when your playing against other people, if you dont do everything you can to prepare, your going in at a disadvantage. in teamwork heavy games, your only as strong as your weakest link and i just dont have time to give everyone a shot. its extremely hard to find enough players for matches as it is and when i can only work with 3% of players as it is, i have to take steps to wean out the people not ready for competition. it may be descrimination but i also descriminate against <18 year olds. when i am trying to get dozens of people together for a match, if one person has to take out the garbage or go to bed, it holds everyone else up. i know its not fair, but what is.
basically i dont mind pissing off most of the people i meet in a MMO because i know that the people i lead or follow into battle will be impressed. im not interested in making interweb friends, only teammates.

PC is the way to go here, especially considering the different characters and weaponry.

I am hopeful that both platforms will thrive and end up facing each other live.

As far as competition is concerned, I would imagine that is going to be an incredibly unscripted, unpredictable facet of this game. Eventually, the battles will be a major draw for this title.

I am hopeful for pay-to-play, which will keep the crowd playing this committed for a longrun and obviously more development along the way. =)

they havent confirmed a monthly fee but im certainly expecting it. the monthly fee will mean that hackers/cheaters/exploiters will be dealt with because if they arent people will quit. so they have a financial incentive as well as the funding to have dedicated people constantly ensuring that everyone plays nice.

the monthly fee is no guarantee that everyone will be mature and responsible, but its cant hurt.

i noticed in the news that Webzen has a deal with Massive to do in game advertising. that can bring in a lot of money and should help offset the monthly fee. would be friggin awesome if its was all paid for with in game adds but that is too much to hope for.

damn, like some others i see, i pretty much agree with every opinion/view/hope naggs has shared
-in reply to the first post.. yea, the main thing i get pissed at in a game like BF2 and crap, are the tanks that roll around, that seem to require either another tank, or a rare rocket/engineer to take it out... i'm more OK with things like open-jeeps, which allows me to spray the noob that likes to switch from driver to gunner on the fly when he sees me - he'll have maybe greater firepower, but if i see him first, then i have a fine chance at taking him down
-also, as much as i happen to overall hate vehicles, i do hope that i'll get to see some people dying from getting rolled over, haha i always laugh at that, except when it happens to me, then i get pissed
-i don't like to give people big heads or make them think i'm sucking up to them or some bullsh!t, but that thread-starter rocked and thx for posting that

Let's talk about release dates, shall we?

Seems to me that with Gamestop / EB Games are showing a July 1 release date, that a more definite release date needs to be tendered by Webzen.

July 1st is not a valid date so how close are we really?

Sooner is better.

I would say about 6-9 months until release. Sooner isn't always better, I for one prefer a finished product compared to a bugworld.

From what i read about other MMOs, when beta came out, which was a few months after the supposed release date was going to be, there were too many bugs to be a good game at all. So, if that company did release that game at the predetermined release date, it would have been a crappy game, with absolutely replay value.

yea naggs really nice posts i acually enjoyed reading long forum posts for once =)...but yep its gonna be really hard to balance all the classes, and people will have to learn to accept that if a shotgun meets up with a sniper rifle from a distance that the person with the shotgun WILL get killed, almost guarenteed...thats where people start to complain, because they don't realize that if i'm waiting around the corner with a shotgun and someone walks by they ARE going to be killed in 1 hit, and just because i happened to be hiding around the corner and shot them in the face they scream nerffff nerffff...so yea all you devs that read this don't nerf classes just because players say you should, go and play in in-game situations to see for yourselves if its really "unfair". it happened to the Rangers in EQ2 and i hope it doesn't happen here, but so far, my friend and I really can't wait for Huxley to come out!!

I was reading this forum for quite a long time but finally i managed to register ;]

But, being on the topic, I have a somehow good idea for a class/proffesion like "hacker". I'm not sure if you remeber a game called "colobot" [plz, stop laughing :D]? I mean, there can be an option to write simple script of AI for npc, creating own robots to co-op with player, armor it and so on. I know it's just my sick dream but i'd really love it to see that in Huxley :D

PS. Sorry for my english, i know it sucks :P

Oh, i hope that they dont implement USELESS and UNNECESSARY textures and random features in the game... like in CSS, there are random pieces of rubbish and crates/bottles around most maps. Its pointless and annouying to have them in because alot of them block your movement and also make your computer work alittle bit harder to filter them.

I would love to have a big open field battle, with tanks speeders u know the works. The mass killing things, and in the battle I want some big walkers or something that does mass killing, maybe somthing that does some huge explotion
