But really the only part where it's possible to screw up is putting the CPU heatsink/fan on (theoretically putting the wrong power connectors in the wrong ports could damage stuff, but that's pretty difficult considering they should be marked on the power cord, the mobo port, and in the manual), and even then they're getting easier nowadays with better designs. It does however help to have another PC on the side so you can look up the motherboard manual online, since it's sometimes hard to read the small paper versions.
Yes, PC's are easy as heck!
But I was referring to laptops.

Actually, I don't even know if it's cheaper (I honestly haven't compared the prices, but a good barebone does cost quite a lot of money). The main advantage I see is the customization.

Of course it's easier said than done, but if it was worth it, I'd definately give it a try. It ain't rocket science after all

I've looked at the prices, and building your own computer is 10%-20% cheaper than buying a computer of the same specs from a manufacturer. I have a single core AMD Athlon 64 3800+ (2.4Ghz), 1gig RAM, and a 7600 GT. I'm planning on getting a new rig with a dual core, 2 or more gigs of RAM, and SLI with the 7600. I don't know if SLI'ing with the 7600's is worth it though. What do you guys think about SLI with a 7600 GT? Is it worth it?

We were talking about building our own laptop, which is very different than building your own desktop.

As of yet, I haven't seen in any reviews the advantage of SLI, except on high resolutions. Imo, you should compare the price of the SLI card to a newer model (7900 GT for example). It might be better to change your video card than buy the SLI version.

People are forgetting the Sager series laptops. They have a wicked 20" with great options. Although you should expect to pay around $3000.

when i first got unreal tournament 2003, i was 99% sure that my worse computer would not play it. but of course it did, but most of the detail wasn't there, and not nearly as many nice effects.. but it ran smooth still, even on the crap computer.

this is probably how huxley will be also. they just show you the previews and movie clips of a higher end computer, but it will most likely be playable on mid-range computers without much problem. it may look like a completely different game when you compare a good video card vs a bad one.

Hmm...looking at some Huxley screens right now...I'm not exactly sure your assumption is going to be so. Unreal Engine 3, DirectX 10...large scale battles at the pace of Quake. Not saying that this game will call for the graphical requirements of Crysis, but I doubt Huxley will run on your basic home Dell.

Who knows though, no hardware specifications have been released yet.

If you are so worried about not being able to play this game due to your grapichs card then just buy a Radeon 2600 XT 256mb it has DirectX10 and the clocks of a 8800GTS

Well from an actual interview with one of the developers they said they have made Huxley playable from any card from a Nvidia 6600 and above and they are actually super cheap these days.

Here's a thought:

What hardware are the Korean beta players playing on?
