I found this amazing two page long article about huxley while I was looking for more information about costumizing characters. It speaks of verry cool features (e.g.: owning your own place that you can decorate, costumizing your character, owning parts of the city because of your clan's influance, shops, combat style, atmosphere, ...)

Looks like they're going to have something to make up to! I really hope they're going to succeed, if so (and i believe they wil) i would like the support classes more specialized than they are like in battlefield 2, battlefield 2 offers enough options compared to the rest of the game. But it would be cool to have a support like character that could buy certain upgrades with wich he could help his team mates, they could like give you an overload of health or give you better ammo than normal support units.. 8)

I'm not obsessive about customization, as long as there's enough choices so that you don't have 50 identical characters standing next to each other, I'm happy.

The thing about customization is they have a limit. Its easier on the computer to render 50 people all looking the same than 50 who look different.
In FFXI people were complaining about all the reused models and textures, but the truth is they had to since the ps2 only had so much memory.. but I agree, its always nice to look uniqe

Im sure if they have good programmers then they can push the game even more. I just know the main reason why games dont have tones of different faces,armors or hair styles is because it would lag more.
Of course this is just basing off the games which has been done, anything is possible in the future :wink:

Don't get my hopes up :P:P
There are certain customization techniques which are easy on the memory, like you have one face, but you have a selection of bones within the face which control the polygons that make up how it actually looks, that means that there is only 1 'main face' and all the customizations need only be 4 coordinates of where the bones in the face are taking the strain off the bandwidth and putting it onto the graphics card (which can handle it). I'm not sure but it looks like EVEonline uses that technique.. |

EVE online customization was godly. You could change your picture so much. One thing about that is that they werent constantly being loaded. You still only seethe ships. I wonder how that would do if you had to send that data to all the players in the area all the time.

Planetside Guy myself...so i cant wait for Huxley to come out (2 Cr5s..) so for the armor customization is going to be an awesome change since in PS you are either Purple Red or Gold so i dont know about any of you guys but my Toon is gonna look hell of alot better then all of yours!

GW had one armour shape for the type of fighter you were (it was different if you had better armour) and you could colour it in 6 colours, there were about 20 faces and 6 hair colours and shapes to choose from for each class/gender...
It doesn't sound like alot but it allowes you to look surprisingly different from the other players on the server, barely anyone looked identicle, i dont remember seeing any identicle characters in the time i played.. and it sounds like Huxley is gonna be more than that already so i doubt its anything to worry about :D

well if they do those little "tricks" that mudface said then that would certainly help on the load. I think just simply having a "paint house" where you can colour youre armor would be great.
