Welcome everyone to Grammerfest 2006, in the red corner...or crimson...uh...what should I call it, seeing that I dont wish to offend anyone...
Wow, you guys are really breaking it down, lol. Dont overthink it, its a group of people...there are dozens of ways to describe that, all different depending on what it is exactly you are looking for in your "group". If you want a close knit family type of "group", call it a "clan", or perhaps a "tribe", or a "pride", a "school" ...any of those could work. If you want a group that doesnt communicate, or is rarely online...you can call it "Acquaintances", or "Supp'ers", or perhaps "People who dont really know each other, but we met on opening day and only three of us play now". It all depends on your perception and what you are looking for. Besides...it is all going to come down to what Huxley calls it, most likely not us...unless they do a poll...and if they do, I am voting for Tuna Sandwich just so I can laugh at all the forum whining that would innevitably result. I love you guys, and I for one cant wait to see my old ass get dusted by twelve year olds, with their nimble little fingers, and childlike reflexes, and will relish in the weekday hours from 6 am to 4 pm, where I will be allowed to triumph, dodging homeschoolers all the way. God bless America, and long live the Queen. ~Mantheren |

lol Go go gadget Brokeback Mountain soundtrack! lol jk.
tyty, Now if only we can get more official info on the "group" system! Also I like the concept of having to fight for your territory, and starting in a hole in the wall(literally).... so that when you move into your first dive, and eventually your warehouse or building, you feel pride, and a sense of accomplishment. I want more info! Feed me...get in my belly! ~Manetheren |

I think you just might have your own instance of your guild, like in Guild Wars everyones guild was in the same location, but everybodys was in a diffrent instance. But it would be cool to take over buildings in the town and call it your Guild Hall.

A guild hall, ideally would be a safe house in your home city that the guild can use as a meeting point and maybe more, it could possibly be used as a guild bank/equipment storage etc. None of which would be risked in a capturable building.

They've spoken of guild halls and conquerable areas totally separately as far as I can tell.
I don't get what the point of having a guild hall would even be if anyone can just come take it over... I've mentioned this before, but why bother defending something that give no resources when you can defend something that actually benefits you? And honestly, how do you convince half a dozen guys to just stand around the building all day just in case someone comes along? These are the main reasons I'd expect guild halls to be safe areas... what I wonder is whether they'll be directly tangible parts of the cities, or if they'll be totally separate, how common they'll be, what type of access system it'll use, what the point of having one is (just as a trophy or really having utility?), etc. There's lots of ways they could go with it... |

Maybe they could set it up so that in order to conquer a territory for your guild, the territory already under your guilds control would then be susceptible to attack. So the leaders toggle whether or not their guilds are in combat.
Then your guild would have to balance offensive and defensive forces, and guilds that don't want to participate in the combat wouldn't have to. I kinda doubt it will happen, but it's a possibility. |

Perhaps having a guild hall's size depending on size and renown or rank of the occupying "group" ...maybe you have to "buy" into a larger guild hall..or better yet quest for it...but anyway...fighting for use of certain utilities or resources for your hall would be interesting, like better lighting from owning the area where the electricity company is, or to draw npc merchants. What would be cool is if every hall had surrounding buildings that you could fight for to gain influence, and the more of those buildings you control, the better gear or prices guild hall npcs carry in the hall itself. The Hall could stay safe, but the surrounding buildings could be vulnerable at certain prescribed hours. (like for 8 hours a day, changable once a week, or possibly also on a challenge system) The seige system from the bot and farmer ridden game of Lineage 2 seems to work well, set up so that the castles or halls are "seiged" once a week,. Oh well, those are just brainstorming ideas. Sorry if this post seems ramble-arific, but as you can tell, I wrote as I thought of the ideas, then more than once, my idea changed mid-thought, so please ask for elaboration as you see my mistakes. Damn my A.D.D.

If there are anything like lockers or storage space for armor/weapons of any kind a hall would be useful. A firing range, recruitment center or simply prestige may be reasons to own one. One bonus to this is that nearby npcs apparently will give discounts to outfit members around their base of operations. Outfit only missions? Cheaper mercenaries? Private merchants?
As for defending these buildings. . . if you're renting it, I imagine you can lock the door.

Hmm this sounds really confusing, I just guess we will have to wait till the game comes out! But maybe you'll have to buy it and go to the outskirts of town and you will be able to choose a place to drop your guildhall.

i know this is an old quote, but i'm new here. . . Sorry. But why not take a block out of FF11's book? I hated FF11 but one thing they did get right was everyone having their own house. Simply make a residential zone that serves as a portal to all guild halls. Three blocks of apartment complexes in which each door in the apartment leads to a guild hall which can be completely full sized. You could even have the different apartment buildings seperated by guild ratings. Pre-built factions could have their headquarters stationed in the middle or about these few blocks with customized guild halls that are given to the highest rating 3 or 4 guilds at the time. If your in that rating you simply enter that hall instead of others. Please respond to this idea. if its just a bad idea, i'm sorry. im new here. . .

I think there needs to be times when you can enter the main city...for a few reasons. First, It would be so much fun if you were able to fight for your city occasionally. Second, home team would have SUCH an advantage, its your town, you should know it front and back...so It would be so much fun if you were able to attack their city occasionally, with losing meaning higher prices, ownership of materials, or just downright bragging rights. It talkes about your accomplishments building influence for your party, and your race...so maybe that would be a fun way to do it, occasionally. Oh well, we will know more later, most likely well over 80% of every conversation on the forum will turn out to be useless.
