My $0.02:
Let players/companies design their own futuristic billboards to promote their clan/product. They will pay a certain fee to leave the billboard up for a set amount of time. Ideally a month, then a new patch can come out at the end of the month that changes the ad's to the next set.[/quote] I do like this idea alot. A straight up picture being cheaper than an animation. Pay it per week, make it high upkeep so the people not too serious about it won't have them spammed everywhere. At least the animated ones. Seeing half assed advertisements done by people who know nothing but paint every time I turn around would really suck.

Oh, I thought that was supposed to be ironic about the "quality" part meaning they sucked.

There is a good reason I brought this thread back from the dead.
In-game advertising has been on the rise and is being talked about alot. Some of our favorite games online are dissapating deeper into the corporate world. I've noticed advertisments in BF2142, Anarchy Online, and Planetside. This is a serious issue that can effect how we enjoy Huxley. I think it's good that we bring back the issue and state new opinions on the subject. It is said that advertisements help keep the games free, but it it worth it when players look for realism and escape from reality? Advertising something in the game that is about things in the game is fine by me, but I don't want to drink a Fanta all because they have a sign next to the gun shop. Opinions?

It should be done very lighlty, scattered in a few places on a billboard or something thats out of the way where most players wont usually be concentrated. I dont want to see constant ads for Burger King, some acne wash, Fanta, and nvidia constantly on my screen when im all into this game.

It's an old article, I didn't catch it before.
This article doesn't sound good. http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/hu...53220&mode=all Looks like our opinions are too late. Turns out in game advertising might already be planned. In short, there will be alot of companies wanting you to buy their product instead of more time for Huxley. lol *edit* This could also mean that the monthly subscription (if they choose to have one) may be cheaper than previously thought.

Well if it is to be in-game advertizing they aren't first with that. Look at BF2142, there when you walk around there are advertizement about NVidia graphic cards or their own expansions, so it wouldn't suprise me if they acctually did the same thing, but not food advertizement but hardware and software for comps, that is used all over the world lol ^^

Would http://huxleygame.com/forum/showthre...2723#post22723 be considered advertising? I don't know what that means for Huxley...

Well that article wasn't been about advertizing, it was news and about the prograss in the Huxley world, if they made a contract with NVidia it's good cause then we know more about Huxley.
Btw you know what advertizing is? Advertizing in other words is spam. When you see a commertial on TV when they talk about new stuff, like chewing gum or food or anything else, that's advertizing.

Yeah, I know what you mean by advertising, but is the Nvidia agreement thing an advertisment? How does the Nvidia agreement affect Huxley? How does it affect the people who play Huxley?

I would think that if they were going to have advertisments ingame instead of monthly fees, then there would be a bunch of them, especially in the high populated areas.
I wouldn't really mind advertisments all over the place in the main city. Just because it's the city and I guess it would seem more ok to have advertisments all over the place. But on the battlefield I'm not sure. Maybe instead of having big fancy advertisments they could put broken advertisments that have been partly destroyed or something but still show an advertisment for whatever they want. As long as they kind of blended in with the rest of the level. As in no giant sparkling screen with naked dancers all around it that sits all by itself in the middle of a wide open field advertising lucky charms. Or maybe on the loading screen when you first enter the world, theres a giant picture of some super new graphics card or something with a little something to read while you wait for the load :D lol I loved Battlefield: vietnam because I played it on a bad computer and it took forever to load, but they had descriptions of every level on the loading screen so it gave me something to do while I waited. Maybe when you talk to NPC merchants they can have some advertising thing that would mention some random product just thrown into the conversation. The NPC says "hey have you seen the new die hard movie?" and you can either question about it, or just say no and go on with the regular conversation. Maybe on some of the big explosions a little box can pop up over the explosion and say "powered by nvidia" lol :D jk They could also throw things in there that could serve as distractions on the battlefield as well as advertisments. Maybe a hologram that you can buy and then throw down in the battlefield and up comes a little hologram guy holding a big gun or something, and on his shirt in big letters is "JOIN THE ARMY" or whatever you want to advertise (maybe you could even pick your own advertisments in this case :D that would be pretty sweet) They could also bring large companies into the game. Companies that we think will probably be around in the future. They could be part of the game to make their big advertisements in the city not seem so out of place. Something like when you buy something in a cup (a drink or I don't know, something) it says Coke on it. And maybe when your buying new armor and you find a nice set of boots that you want. The shopkeeper mentions that the boots were made by Vans (or whatever company). I'm not saying they should put all of these in there and swarm us non-stop so wherever we turn a huge billboard explodes in our face. But rather they have a mix of it all. Have a good number of huge billboards in the capital city and a couple partly destroyed ones on the battlefields that are in run down cities. Then just throw in a few little things that get mentioned every now and then. This way it can be spread out and not get anoying while still doing its job. |

lol Just thought of some rediculous in-game advertizement. You run, kill a mob, he drops dead, you approach his corpse, and it stands with big letters across his spine "NVIDIA!" or something like that.
Or maybe have every armor piece with advertizements, you run out on the field looking like a hockey or football player! xD You come in the town everything is sprayed with differant advertizements, and sprayed i mean with cans of spray, istead of pictures there are words that are advertizements, the more they sponsor the more psam and bigger letters :P
