Ive heard of Huxley being compared to Planetside, as in being a persistent world. Any word on how persistent?? Will like the main hub city be persistent but battle ares be instanced?? I played PS for a while ,gameplay was monotanous but the concept was great. I have really been hoping for a game that took Planetside's concept to a new updated level. I will really be dissapointed tho if alot of the battle gameplay is instanced.

From what ive heard and read, the main citys are persistent and many battle areas will be instanced. There is a gateway in the city that leads to an instanced battlefield where you can start fighting right away in clan vs. clan. The dungeons are also instanced, but the other faction can jump in and gank ya. My guess is theres going to be a mix, but most of the end game content will be instanced.

So far all that we know about Huxley from what I gather
Persistent cities for persistent RPG stuff Instanced combat Not being rude but also coming from a planetside background, all that this is is a mmorpg with gamespy tacked on with a monthly charge. Or am I being too cynical? |

I hope the combat is like planetside, where alot of skill is envolved to stay alive and Kill.
But as i see people are tagging the RPG to it, which i hope it doesnt turn into. With planetside what ever rank you are you still stand the same chance of killing someone as the top rank, unlike rpgs (WoW for instance) where a lvl 3 cannot kill a lvl 60 which in my view is stupid, same as Eqipment and money. Huxley in my oppinion should be a Pure MMOFPS where you can log on, with 1000s of players and pwn some ass, and keep track of your stats. So in a way i wish it was like planetside with the ranks and Kill xp ect. If you understand where i am comeing from. The devs have alot to learn from planetside's mistakes, if they want to make the best MMOFPS there is. If i see Huxley being a slight RPG element in it, i will not buy it. |

Fromt he Gspy preview it would seem that its a blend of RPG and FPS BUT it uses no "dice rolls" to resolve combat, so it takes elements of planetsides rank system, allowing access to chracter upgrades (like the ability to double jump or use heavy armour) but ultimately the ability to dodge, aim, manage your equipment and work with your squad, will be the primary factor in deciding the winners and losers in PVP, they specified that a level 50 character cannot be complacent and is deffinitely at risk from a level 1 character, even if the odds are in the 50's favour.
Character progression is 50/50 based on pvp and pve. You gain XP in PVE and XP unlocks abilities however.. there is a cutoff on how much XP you can get, depending on your rank. Rank is determined purely by involvement in PVP, if you dont involve yourself in PVP you cannot get your character very far. With regards to instancing... it says there will be a mixture of persistant battle grounds and pvp areas and instanced quest and pvp areas... they also say that it may be possible for enemy players to play the same quest as you, either with the same objective but competing against you or sent in to try and mess you up. They say that the questing is going to be like playing a single player FPS game but co-op. If they get it right what they have described sounds like the perfect mix.

That sounds like good stuff to me, if you have instanced stuff basically you go jump into "the server" being the instance you want. and the persistant world would be like having a live game loby where you can upgrade meet up with your buds....and it be interactive, rather then a little chat room where your waiting on everyone to hit the ready button. so sounds good to me.

Additionally, Planetside had no hitboxes (because it would have bogged down the server too much i suppose). This should be corrected with the help of the Unreal 3 engine, hopefully this game will be everything to satisfy all types of gamers. The grind of MMORPG's and the action of FPS' |

technically not true.. planetside had hit boxes.. its just that it only had 1 hit box per character, the way planetside worked was that it basically tracked the locations of all theh it boxes as they moved around the server (IE tanks, transports, buggies, aircraft and infantry). All had 1 hitbox, so regardless of where you hit it, the effect was always the same, a shotgun blast to the little toe was as powerful as a shotgun blast to the head.
Planetside is nearly 3 years old and the first game of its type, so the technology back then was nothing like it is now. They used client side hit detection and single hit boxes to reduce server and client lag, this allowed them to have up to 550 people taking part in a single battle ( 3 empires, max 200 per empire, the last empire on the scene was limited to 150). Howeveer its obviosuly flawed and outdated. More modern games (i think) like doom3, use per pixel hit detection, meaning that there are no "hit boxes" as such. As Huxley uses one of the most advanced FPS engines ever, its possible it will have per-pixel hit detection.. but then again as its massivel ymultiplayer that may not be practical and you may find it limited to the planetside single hitbox or the old halflife, limbs, body, chest and head system. I would disagree with utoh's judgement of Planetside, there certainly are plenty of instances in planetside that require no skill what so ever, however the real skill in planetside comes from managing a squad or platoon of soldiers and getting them into the most effective place at the right time. An organised 10 man squad could disable a key enemy base and keep it disabled for a long time, depriving the enemy army of key equipment and turning the entire battle. If huxley can combine FPS skill with proper teamwork then it will have the perfect mix and fix everything that was wrong with planetside.

Depends on what you doing in PS most things requier skill in planetside there ar some wapons that need more then others but you need to lead your target at all time 's (geus witch empire i play) otherwise most bullets will miss. There ar also some point and click wapons in planetside but there mostly used by 1 empire. i started 3 years ago and still play today couse atm there is nothing that can compare or get close and i know a hell of allot off guys that ar waiting for this game.
The main thing i like best about planetside is the way you could certify wapons, armour and vehicels. A Battlerank 1 with 4 cert points can get a Havy assault wapon and be up against a Battlerank 25 with the same wapons and armour only difference may be that the BR25 is adv med and can revive his sqaud mate 's or carrie 's a Havy sniper rifle with him aswell and the BR 1 not couse he has not got the points to get it yet.

I hope to God that Huxley has hitboxes. I don't even really want pixel-detection, I'd be more than happy with just head, torso, and limb hitboxes.

no ctf yet i think they ditched that idea ... too many hate posts lol i think the only thing ps is gonna have over hux is the mass battles ... from wat ive read huxley will only have 120 players in a battle where planetside can have up 133 per side (used to be higher but due to limited pop the shortened it :S) thats a tottal of 399 players raining hell over the battle fields. if huxley can increase the battle size to match planetside in the main battlezones then huxley will be a winner for sure edit: can this thread get a sticky please :D |

Where did you read only 120 in a battle? cant you do 124 in games like bf2?. I hope its more, and would be sad if only a certain amount of people are aloud in one area at one time..

I think BF2's max is 64 with 32 players on each team, unless EA changed it recently or with the expansion, since i havn't played since they brought that new map out a while ago.
