It'll be fine but i just hope it isnt ridiculously fast like Quake on multiplayer. Its so stupidly fast its not fun. You cant concentrate and if your the sort of person who has played alot of Call Of Duty 2 and Slower FSP and MMOs it does your head in. Like me for example.

Sorry about that, what I said is a thread killer if I've ever seen one, and I like this thread. Everyone, just pretend like the last two posted are not there.
Thank you.

Quake to me is normal speed, and I can concentrate on it just fine. Perhaps you need more practice? Maybe play a few games that aren't oriented around camping? |

It's just a matter of what people's perceptions are. To me when I first started out on games, doom and wolfenstein it was just alot of shooting, then quake of fast ass moving. Games came out with bad graphics and awesome fast paced gameplay.
These days all that's coming out is the damn stealthy fire no more than 3 shots or you fail the mission kind of pos games. Granted they're fun, but it's been a while since they made good fast games. It's all about realism and counter terrorism, whoopty fucking doo. UT is the only one that's really kept true to FPS' Gamers these days need to go back to the oldschool fun games where it's skill not a goddamn shadow that keeps you alive.

I was getting Quake mixed up with Unreal. Unreal is okay because its fast, but not TOO FAST like Quake. I hate slowish games like Splinter cell and perfect dark where you have to remain silent all the time basically. But i like CoD2 cuz you can run around and shoot like a madman in a good normal pace. Unreal is a little fast but i'll get used to it. I still hope they make the driving better and graphics nicer. Graphics are probably MY fav part of a game. Its a shame though because the games with the best graphics ive seen so far on the 360 are perfect dark and kameo but those are both really crap games.

this is the first game being released that I know of that is using the unreal engine 3. I know there is other games using it but I believe this will be the first game released with it.
Hopefully they don't go to crazy with the speed like in UT. I never played quake but UT was way too fast I thought and if quake was faster then that then I'm glade I never played it. I'm pretty confident that they will find that happy medium. In the article on gamespy they said the beta work will be done in asia and probably not much in the states. Why is that? potential leaks maybe. |

I hope the game moves like unreal, dodges an' all. Faster pace tends to cause much more chaotic battles which imo equals more fun. I've always loved when things get so chaotic that you can barely hold a team together, I love it when communication totaly breaks down, tactics go out the window and you are left with only your instincts and reactions. Thats what gets the adrenaline going, the heart racing; thats why I wont play games like CS or CoD. Those games just dont provide the same level of carnage and chaos, they feel cold and unrewarding to me.

I disliked all the jumping around it reminded me of quake and BF2 and thank god they made it for you cant shoot anymore while jumping in BF2. It just looks retarded to me when a guy is just jumping all around during combat, especially wearing all that armor and heavy gear.
Im more into taking cover and then waiting for the right time to rush and useing strategy but not waiting so long where it gets boring. As long as I can kill a guy within a few hits and he cant jump from infront of me to behind me in a second making me have to turn completly around to find him it should be fine. It just seemed a bit to fast as of now, but I may think different if I tryed it.

Jumping and dodging ARE tactics.
I am personally glad that they are making a fast game where your reactions and ability to think fast have to be up to speed, instead of yet another "realistic" hidey snipey yawn-inducing campfest. |

I'm not quite sure where this was going, but I'm pretty sure Gears of War will be the first U3 game released. UT2007 will likely be the 2nd, and then the 3rd-party dev games will start rolling out. But really, it's not difficult to change the basics of movement when someone makes a game using the same engine. It would be tricky to do something crazy like add strafe jumping to an engine, but the ultimate movement styles of Gears of War, UT2007, and Huxley will probably all vary quite a bit, depending on how the developers think the game should be balanced.
Compare UT2004, Splinter Cell, and even Unreal II. They all used the same version of the same engine, but came out very different because it's all left in the hands of the devs. The fact that the Huxley developers have mentioned that they particularly like the fast-paced gameplay of Quake and UT style games is a much bigger indicator of what they're going for than which engine they chose. |
