i was watching that ingame video on gt.com and noticed that there is never a hand on the gun. like holding under the barrel, its really noticable when he pulls out the sniper rifle. kinda wierd i hope they do something about that casue im willing to bet if you look at other players they are holding the weapon the way i described.
one other thing that could make or break this game for me, is there areas that are wide open fields where i could camp with a .50 cal sniper rifle? this is one thing i am looking forward to about this game sitting over a battlefield sniping npcs or other players and sitting in one place for a while waiting for that one guy running through a field who thinks hes alone and then bam one shot to the head and hes done. will this be possible in this game or am i getting hyped for nothing? |

About seeing your hands, I could care less, sure it looks funny, but that is a very minor detail and won't affect the game in any way. As for camping with a sniper rifle, probably, but no one really knows.

You should be able to snipe all you want, the only thing is that this is suppose to be fast paced fighting, for example the unreal tournement style play.... i will probably be alot harder to snipe with it being this way... then again i might not

It's UT. I doubt you've ever seen your hands in first person. UT2004 is the same. That's just a style that UT uses.

There will most likely be spaces you can snipe at, but don't count on an easy time. With the movement speed I've seen not only will targetting be hard, enemies will close the gap pretty damn fast. The gameplay suggests that standing still is suicidal so dont expect many (if any) targets to be in the same spot for more than a second.
I love that style though since I've always hated snipers with a passion, they're like elven rangers from fantasy games (you wanna teach them about real pain up close and personal!). Last edited by Dementus; 28-05-2006 at 04:12 PM. |

Think snipers in planetside.
For example even if everything is instanced, and i'm still not sure this is the case. But for now lets assume it is, one of the larger multiplayer battles described involved a group of islands with bases and instalations on them. Namely smaller inslands for each teams main spawn and veichle depo's. And a large land mass with capturable instalations scattered across it. So as a sniper you could take several roles. One being to defend an instalation find a suitable spot and hold off attackers. Another role could be to camp the open areas between the instalations and pick off stragllers or key targets, and generally slow down enemy movement. Or take part in offensive attacks on enemy held structures, picking off enemy troops and other snipers. You could even infiltrate the enemies main island and base rape them. I say think planetside because playing a sniper in PS was very similar.

Not being able to see your hands on the weapons really won't spoil the game for you that much. Go play Unreal or Quake and you'll notice what I'm talking about. As for sniping, the game looks fast paced so the only sniping I think you will beable to do is running around no scoping, like with the lightning gun from Unreal, or quickscoping fools. In a game like Unreal you can't sit back and camp with a sniper, people will find you and destroy you.

not true.
Take the larger CTF maps in UT torni, or the veichle maps. You can snipe effectively on them since your so far away. But yes sniping in close quarters wont be as effective since you'll get raped by rocket blasts.

There'll be front lines and plenty of cover in an urban setting to keep moving around. However, sniping in a UT environment is nothing like you'd find in DoD or CS.
As for close in vs rockets, in their weapon descriptions they've been saying if you try going close in with rockets you'll probably get wasted.

Edit: as far as the hand thing goes, the game is still in development, don't count your chickens before they hatch.

Well, unless they've got it working that it loads 2 models per weapon in first person then you're going to run into the fact that all the models don't line up well. You'll have mismatched pieces of armor which generally look worse than not being able to see your hands under a gun, though that usually gives the feel of firing from the hip.
