I've never played an MMO previously but I've just read something about WoW that has me kind of worried.
Apparently people can't get into the servers all the time and are sometimes queuing for hours ? Is this typical of an MMO - I'd have thought if you're paying fee the provider should have sufficient resources to have all paid up players on at any time. If we're likely to have to queue to join a Huxley server I'll forget about the game right now.

I honestly woulnd't mind Q's. I've had my fair share of them in WoW, you get over them and used to them. I've come to think of them as patches that happen once every month or two, except their not patches, but I'm still trying to convince myself they are so I don't get mad when I see one.

When huxley comes out we should all go on the server that is the closest to the letter Z that way people have to scroll down to find it :D

Q's wont be anywhere near as bad as Wow can be at times... Wow does have these issues sometimes because its the biggest MMO out there, and alot ofthe older svcs are over packed... so to fix that they put in tons more svcs and put limits to how many can be on a server at once, thus the Q's

I wouldn't wait for that, if I have bought the game plus paying monthly fees for it then I wouldn't accept the waiting. I want to play the second I feel like it. Although I think that we don't have to worry about this, Huxley is going to be big, but not that big. At least not to start off with.

It's not a question of size only though - it's the comparative amount of resources available for the number of players.
If WoW has set the precident and MMO makers now know that people are willing to queue then all developers will lay out the minimum possible on resources and just stretch things to the limit - all businesses do. I hope Webzen are above this crap - first time I find myself in a queue my subsciption will be cancelled.

Its not blizzards fault that there are queues there are masses of almost empty servers but since all the new players want to play with their friends or want to play on the busy servers it maxes them out.
And when the game becomes as popular as wow queues are bound to happen. I dont even think blizzard were ready even if they over estimated the number of they might get if they were lucky. And if huxley happens to become succesful then they'll probably have the same thing eventually unless after a certain point they prevent people from starting characters on the server. But then you get the problem that people cant play with their friends.

If you want a good example of what is possible for hardware, check out Eve-Online run by CCP. Recently they upgraded their hardware yet again. Over 20,000 people in their server, since beta there's not been any ques. They have used their profits to upgrade their hardware, reduce lag and upgrade the engine. They are currently planning on replacing the entire engine with a new and better one to improve gameplay as well. There's no reason that WoW should have ques, or have the lag it does. Blizzard is just being cheap like they always are and milking the game for what it's worth, and people put up with it. |

I don't think you should go to that extent Felix. It may very well be that they are milking the game, but anyone who knows Blizzard knows that they are not always cheap. Have you ever played SC or WC3, if so then you should know that they are always trying to help out their buyers, keep the game up to date, balanced, and fun to play. Blizzard is by far the best company in terms of services, hell they even mention how badass Blizzard is to their fans in a Pure Pwnage episode.

With better customer service.
They've got an addicting game with massive amounts of subscriptions and they even lost the game of the year when it was released because of how shitty the service and the servers were. That's pretty bad when you lose an award because of how pathetic you run the actual gameplay. |
