I got curious to how it all began, how the odd name Huxley got to be the new name of this breathtaking MMOFPS. And which things from his book that actually inspired Webzen in the making of this game.
So I ordered the book online a few days ago and I'm expecting delivery any time now. Basicly my question to you guys is, how many has read it and how many are planning to do it? *** Please note that I don't want to see any spoilers in this thread! *** |

I went on google and typed that out, it came out with Aldus Huxley aswell, something about "Brave New World". It seems interesting. Here is the link incase no one knows what we are talking about
http://www.huxley.net/ I also looked it up on YouTube and it also came up with Aldous Huxley. He seems like a pretty funky fellow. However, the book is looking at Communism (if you read abit lower form the link) and American Capitalism, hrmm litriture is creepy. Peace out!! Xorp edited: I removed the part about the book as it could have detered some people. Sorry. forgive me. Last edited by Xorp; 17-05-2006 at 02:39 PM. |

Yeah, I was amazed when I figured this out too. My friend who reads tons of books has read it, so I'm going to borrow his copy or buy one. Unlike many who want a giant shooter to kill tons of people, I want an immersive world with storyline, so the book will be nice. Storyline which requires NPCs, oh no....

Just as a heads up, it appears that Huxley is freely adapted from Brave New World and I mean very freely. It appears that little in Huxley has much to do with Brave New World. If you are hoping to read the book to understand a bit more on test tube babies and a God-less future society then go ahead but if you want to read the book in hopes to understand how all the races in Huxley came to be or how the wars among races started, then I'm sorry but your not going to find what your looking for. Nevertheless, Brave New World is a great book, there is much one can learn about society from it. If you have read George Orwell's 1984 then you should get an idea on what Brave New World is like. In 1984, fear, imtimidation and pain are used to control a society, contrary to Brave New World where pleasure and keeping people happy is used to control society.

Sadly, Brave New World has been pushed out of the High School Canon in American classrooms.
This is not really a college level book, but with recent, more politically correct editions(and recent is past 20 years, sorry I am old) there just wasn't room for books like this. Most people get Orwell still and lose Huxley. But to be honest, your teachers today probably never read it either unless they grew up in the Reagan or generally Cold War era literature. Today's lit focuses on shiny happy feelings, ethnic literature, and a few of the old school classics. Nothing wrong with it. During the Depression most of us would have read maybe one reading primer and the bible if we were from families that could afford education. The book is good, and it's very relevant today post patriot act. Huxley managed to be part Heinlen and part Orwell for Brave New World. If neither of those appeal to you, start with something less heavy and work your way up. Lot's of great books out there you will never get exposed to with the current canon. Sorry for the long winded reply, my degree is in English lol. |

haha yeah i thought it was just a very cool sounding name they came up with but when i googled it to find this site and ones like it i was supprised to find out all the other referances that came up. As for reading the book i probably wont read it. as it dose seem most days i barley seem to have enough hours in a 24 hour day to get stuff done as it is. so if i had to read a book i dont know what i would have to give up to do this. please let me know if you like it..

But if they knew more they'd know that Bullock's character Lenina Huxley was named after Lenina Crowne in Brave New World. The setting in a futuristic utopian society is the give away. And the fact that Stallone's character is called John, same name as the savage in BNW. At one point Bullock even says "John, you're a savage", which may or may not be a fairly pointed reference depending on how obvious you like 'em.
