Default My list of MMOFPS do's and dont's

Must Haves>>
  • SKILL must be more important than items or Levels. Period.
  • Good Communication tools for organizing squads and platoons
  • A good Balance between close, medium and long range combat
  • a DEADLY realistic combat system that provides quick kills
  • easy quick way of finding a good battle and getting into it
  • a grief system that locks your weapons if you kill enough friendlies
  • A good chat system
  • Skill Based combat as opposed to RPG style
  • As a beginning player you must be able to take on a "maxed out player" and stand a decent chance given equal SKILL
  • ALL PVP
  • Very few, if any bots..and the bots shouldn't be too big a part of the game
  • A few HUGE servers rather than tons of small ones
  • 100 vs 100 (minimum) combats every day 24/7 constantly
  • Lots of support type classes and ways for support characters to get XP
  • Lots of ways to customize your character(s)!
  • Maps with territory and persistance - no gay instances
DEAL BREAKERS (Things that would suck ass)
  • Uber Items that you need to be effective in combat
  • If you get better at shooting / killing by gaining levels
  • If there is an RPG element involved in the combat (like a higher level character can't be hurt by a lower one)
  • If good equipment is based on level
  • If you can't team up with anyone in your faction no matter what the level (and F*CK "sidekicking", thats gay)
  • Too many "instances" or "instanced combat areas"
  • Mandatory quests and bot killing
  • Items being more important than skill ******* !!!!!!!
  • Level being more important than skill in combat

I feel good equipment as in access to bigger and stronger weaponary should be based on lvl. Otherwise there is no point in having lvls, you might aswell just plau unreal torni. If a lvl 1 character can come in and use all the weaponary its taken you months to be able to access whats the point of investing all that time.
I'll agree that lvls shouldnt make you better, as in improve your firing accuracy etc, but they should give you access to better gear, veichle rights.

In addition, the harder pve instances would require players with the stronger gear, or having them would make it alot easier, sure you could take out that incoming mutant serg with small arms fire, but a rocket straight down the middle would clear them up alot faster.

Default Saint - take a look at planetside

The way it works in planetside is newbs can access a lot of the gear right off the bat, just not all at once.

For example, if you want to be a sniper, you newb character can be as good a sniper right off the bat as anyone. But, the higher level guys can run and grab their shotguns, etc.... because they have more options.

It is a really cool system and I hope huxley uses something similar.

I just want big huge battles! Making it so that fair fights can only happen between similar level characters would be stupid IMHO. And, contrary to the very purpose of an MMOFPS.

Would you rather go to the special area where only characters level 25-30 can go, or would you rather go out onto the battlefield where a huge army was gathered with generals and peons alike?

it would be cool if leveling was based on your stats. the higher points per hour and kills/deaths ratio you average, the higher you level. then you get money for kills based on the level of your enemy to buy equipment with.

edit: but you cant devolve a level.

That sounds a lot like Battlefield 2, which isn't the best way to level up, but if they leave medals out it's okay. Though that would pretty much make it possible for you to jump from level 1 to 20 in a couple of games.

The problem is the support classes -

Like medic, driver, engineer etc...

These guys wont get many kills....

For me, seperation is a BAD idea. The whole idea of a MASSIVELY multiplayer game is to get as many people as possible together.

Mantis, they've already shot down half of your do's and don'ts. Go read up on the game.

Exactly, you are posting as if you haven't read ANYTHING on the Huxley game itself. It is not going to be like Planetside or BF2. RPG elements ARE going to be important, and I'm sure you aren't going to make Webzen change that. Level 1's probably won't be able to kill Level 50's, because then what would be the point of leveling?

They have announced that they will have plenty of instanced areas, along with quests. If these items don't make your character better, then what's the point? Just play UT...Huxley is not going to meet your "requirements."

Well from the gamespot interview alone they said that the higher level you are the more access you'll have to different weapons, armors, vehicles and abilities.

I think that was just for the demo at E3. They seemed to have made a deathmatch style arena just for every to see how the game would play. Limiting the weapon choices by giving people pre determined classes would be an easy way to show off the game.

As for medics, in one of the early vids they did show one of the guys rushing across to help a fallen comrade so i'm assuming he was a medic of some sort but we still dont know the details so cant say for sure.

I think the classes are based on the Weapon Types that you would like to use but all classes can use support gear.

This is what I was understanding.

There WILL be support in Huxley, like there is in every single other modern FPS.
