Actually no. It's a good indication that service will be good, but take Planetside and WoW as two instances where you pay for it and the service is still shit.

As an up and coming new company into the MMO field I personally believe they'll have a good service just to show for their first tries they're not piles of shit, but who knows.

yeah, but some ads definitly are a little hard to swallow. oh, Join the American Army....that shouldnt exist anymore, becuase theres no america in this game. I agree that ads can actually AD to realism as long as their as gritty/pretty as the rest of the world (wouldnt want a perfectly clean billboard when the area its in is wartorn and grungy) and for things that might not exist in the time era (example above) but otherwise it might take off some money (JUST MAYBE, i wouldnt get my hopes up too much) and make the world more realistic (an ad free future? please.)

I'm not sure how much time there willing to invest in "fake ads" when they have balencing, servers and new content to worry about.

I think this poll generates a somewhat misleading conclusion. Although a monthly fee wouldn't turn alot of people away, the less money overall people have to spend, the more people will play the game.

I hope they don't go with a dollar amount per month method not because I couldn't afford it, but rather because leaving out a pay per month subscription service gives me more closure about what I've accomplished in the game. By this I mean that everything I've done in the game doesn't just vanish (Temporarily or permanently) if I stop paying that monthly fee. What I've accomplished will always remain just that.

Problem with that is if they do have ads, it'll be for crap like coca cola, pepsi, viagra, military services and a whole bunch of annoying crap like that who want gamers to see their ads. Ok, maybe not viagra, but you get what I mean. You're in a post apocalyptic environment with heavy eastern influences. Having the companies from today in that world would ruin the whole thing.

even though the service for Planetside was considered shitty it still OWNED the service of BF2 or other online games that are free to play. Think about it, planetside updated atleast once a month and added on PLENTY of new things (and bugs) throughout its life whereas BF2 only updated with lame patches to fix bugs, not so much with new content.

I'm just saying that you must not have actually played Planetside because they did make it worth 12 dollars a month if you think so or not.

I say they should make it free or like $5 a month....but charge like $10 or $15 for "Special Packs" That gives you like Extra XP and secret weapons so it gives a choice for the poor and the rich. I myself wont mind the monthly fee, but ill have to decide if it is better then WoW, if it is im cancelling WoW and getting Huxley, that simple. I wish they could come out with like a MMORPG value Time card or something :(

A reasonable price for the game as a monthly fee isn't that bad. Simply don't go out for dinner one night and you'll have saved close to $10-15, not a bad tradeoff for a month of gaming.
great post.
and i voted no it wouldnt turn me away for the game as it is a resonable expectation to pay a fee to the game maker to maintain good effeciant servers with minimal bugs and down times. and the occasonal upgrade or patch,to keep the fresh. I do like that most games give the first moth free as sort of a test run.if iam not totally convinced i like the game and iam not totally hooked on the game in a month of playing it. i stop playing and stop paying and move on to the next game out there, no problem..

i think you an me Daedelus have the same views on this subject... its nice having the free first month with some of these games, i gives you a chance to try and it and say, like or dont like.

And yes a game like this thats free for monthly fees would have me worried as well.

If the game is awesome, I dont mind a monthly fee... A video game is entertainment, and MMO's offer a different kind of entertainment than your normal video game....

I wouldnt expect to go to the movies, go bowling, go golfing, etc all the time for free. This is just another form of entertainment that charges you to be entertained. MMO's have a very long "life span", especially compared to normal games.

Even if its 10 dollars a month.... people who play these play them alot... It costs 10 bucks to see one movie! You spend 10 bucks on food and drinks one trip the bowling alley... you could play Huxley at 10 bucks a month for a year for the amount of money it takes to go golfing one day!

If it isn't too expensive, ill definately pay, over £10 is where i would call the line and forget about it (£10 monthly that is)

But when playing a MMO that you pay a monthly subscription for, you have to weigh out how much you are paying for how many hours of good fun and entertainment.

I'm paying for WoW right now and Xbox Live. Having a fee definetly won't keep me from playing this game, unless they are asking a huge amount for it. When it comes out, I will most likely just stop playing WoW, one less thing I have to pay for. Maybe the creators should consider in game advertising, to keep us from paying. Then again it would be kind of odd to be walking down the street and seeing a billboard for a Wopper.

thats an interesting idea... it would add realism to the cities to see advertisement... Billboards for Best Buy, Whoppers, Mcdonalds... hell, even put some restaurants and soda machines in the game just for kicks. Just more places to socialize.

Companies would pay the money for that.... WOW has 6 million subscribers, so thats a huge market base.

microsoft bought the company that does ingame advertising so technically they could do it but i honestly dont want to see it because eventually it would get way outta hand and then we would have shit like buy 15 pizzas from pizza hut and input your reciet numbers and then you will unlock a new weapon. that would just be stupid

That's better than those games that just straight up say "in order to get these items you have to pay us money".
