First time I hear an advertisement for present day companies would constitute too much advertising in my book. A run down coca cola sign or similar I could see. There's no reason those'd disapear, but I don't want a video to go buy dvds at best buy or some shit like that.

yea, just have run down old billboards that have a present day advertisement ( no video ) would be fine with me.

I think other companies are bound to try the 'GuildWars' approach.

If you didn't know, guildwars doesn't charge a monthly fee, they just have the core game + expansions.

At some point most games are going to have an online element. The cost for servers and bandwidth and such is naturally going down.

There *will* be more games that only charge once for the box and do not charge monthly fee yet are online and good quality.

That day will be sooner rather than later, I think.

It all boils down to economics. Right now, if you want quality MMO you have to pay monthly. When more competition comes along (like guild wars) this will change.

When they can sell more boxes and make more $$$ by _NOT_ charging a monthly fee....than they can make by selling less boxes but making money on monthly fees .......it will happen.

For right now, I'm happy to pay of course. But, as soon as there is an alternative (like the "guildwars" of the MMOFPS world) I will go that route.

I wouldnt mind them putting Mcdonalds restaurants, Best Buy billboards, Wal-Mart Super-Centers, Bank of America, etc in the game... I believe it adds realism to the city. As long as there is no video that effects the play of the game, why wouldnt you want that? The idea is to be as realistic as possible, while not turning it into a commercial. Movies have been doing this for years.. you dont even notice it. In one scene the actor is holding a Pepsi, doesnt hurt the movie does it? He never mentions the Pepsi, he/she is just drinking one... They get their ad out, it adds realism instead of a blank can that says "Cola" on it or something....

Just make them useful... for example, you should be able to walk-into these places and kill people. Who doesnt want a battle scene in the frozen-foods section at Wal-Mart every once in awhile??? after all, that last box of enchiladas is mine, bitch.

If you have housing in the game, (like Star Wars Galaxies), you should be able to purchase stuff at Wal-Mart, Best Buy, etc for your place....

i dont think it would sell that well on xbox if there was a monthly fee because you already have to pay like 5 quid a month just to play online and if you have to pay another 10 quid on top of that to play this. Remeber most of the users of xbox live are like 13 year old boys that have annoying squeaky voices and its unlikely theyll get 15 quid pocket money... Itll just come out then theyll all start bad mouthing it because they cant afford it and they dont like games they dont have.

No, it wouldn't. Fees = better service, better servers, more updates, and so on.

Phantasy Star Universe sold pretty well. FFXI didn't sell bad for xbox.

As logn as it wouldn't be like many free MMORPGs, where it's free to play but there are things you can buy for real money. For me it's better p2p then like most of free MMORPGs. Cause it's really ennoying that there are better things but they cost real money, get out of here! p2p is MUCH better cause then you simply pay and dont think, should i get this item or not.

I think a fee is A O K. Servers need upkeep, and people need to get paid. Its the way the world goes round. Without a fee we might not have Huxley.

Hmmm. Good question. Webzen, I don't think, has that kind of marketing. It's probably just credit card, but don't give your hopes up.
