Pre-E3 2006: Huxley Interview
Webzen's Unreal Engine 3 powered MMOFPS could be the entry to persistent universes action fans have been looking for.
by Tom McNamara

May 3, 2006 - There have been a couple of first-person shooter massively multiplayer titles at this point. Neither were exceedingly successful. Offering up a game type that players are used to receiving in a format that can be either won or lost is a much trickier proposition in a persistent world with character growth where technically characters can't die permanently. Victory is only a frustrating carrot dangled out of reach of even the most talented players. How do you fix that? Webzen thinks they have the answers in their upcoming MMOFPS Huxley that mixes PvE, PvP, and persistent characters in rich sci-fi setting based off of some principles of A Brave New World. We know it sounds crazy, but it's visually stunning thanks to Epic's Unreal Engine 3 and has the potential to be something special from a gameplay perspective as well. We'll see the game up and running at the Electronic Entertainment Expo next week but thought we'd tease you all with a bit of info via a Q&A with the development team. Check it out and look for first-hand impressions from the show floor.

Hmmm,

Well that provided precisely bugger all new information - why are they so tight lipped about the game mechanics, do they still not know how it's going to work yet themselves ?

Yep, I guess most guys have seen it already but I'm going to keep this if someone else has missed it for some reason. Next time remember that it's enough to link to the interview and perhaps take a snippet from it.

They're tight liped because the gaming industry likes to steal.

Yup, can understand that but they're about to show it at E3 to the entire industry so sparing a few words in an interview this week doesn't seem much of a risk.

Why would they spill the beans when E3 is right around the corner?

It's like a movie leaking, everyone already knows what happens.

Never heard about that - that's awful.

Kind of amusing though.

Hope lots of Huxley info comes out of E3 then, it's about time some hard information was available.

p.s. Brene, saw your system specs in the other thread and I'm deeply envious ;-)
