So back in the gory glory days of war, men were men and hid in holes they dug with their sweat and blood. Now these were good times when thousands of men lined up in their respective trenches and shot each other. Now with the advent of 100 vs. 100 battles, fighting in a puny city, engaging in urban warfare, sniping duals, solo missions behind lines, little squads wandering around, etc. just aren't gonna cut it. There are so many people on the battlefield that it's gonna end up being large groups squaring off. Therefore, we need something to hide in or behind, and rocks just don't cut it. We need trenches. Trenches are great, they allow your "army" to hold a fortified front that can hold off the enemy so that you could wait for reinforcements (dead teammates perhaps, or players who join in after X amount of time has past) or plan your next move. It also allows for those ever-so-awesome scenes where a boatload of people jump out of the trenches and charge the nearest trench, wrecking havok and leaving trails of death. Now granted, you could say just make the levels bigger, that will solve the problem, but then your "army" gets thinned and unco-ordinated. So, I put forth the proposition, that trenches (if not already included) should be added to the game; not on every single battlefield or combat area, but some maps/levels/loacations that are huge trench warfare hot spots should definately be added. It's either trenches, or continental style, and I'd rather have trenches.
(if you read this far have a cookie)

yeah, but back then they didnt have cars driving around with gattling guns on the back. In online if they had trenches people would just drive through with car and kill everyone or fly a plane(if they have them) over it and drop bombs.

Well of course it's going to be face paced, but think about it, 200 hundred people battling it out on one field. Just charging with cars and bombing the crap out of things won't always work. Especially if you have gun emplacements and AA cover or just no bombs/planes at all. Also, the trenches provide cover, a car can't dive into the trench it would go over, or just get blown up trying, plus you have fox holes and bunkers along the line in case of an air attack, artillery, etc. You have to keep in mind how many people are going against each other; Halo or Battlefield 2 tactics aren't going to work, those are relatively small scale battles compared to these massive ones (roughly a 136 person difference). Tactics have to change.

Trenches + Grenades = Bad
But the idea is awesome. I could kind of see it more for a defensive battle rather than an "open" battle. Say that one faction was trying to capture a city (don't know if this is possible, but would be great) and the defenders had a trench system. The attackers would really have to outdo themselves to capture that city. And no, this does not seem fast paced like the game is supposed to be, but think of trenches as the strategic side that the game is supposed to have. |

Hell i like trenches.
Hundreds of enemy troops standing in a line, walled in on the sides, all I have to is jump in at one end and warm up the minigun. But seriously wouldnt really work, I mean they could be put in. But if huxley is taking its ques from UT style games, standing still is not a good idea.

First of all, Saint, you would never make to the end of a trench with over one hundred people in it, all facing your direction with guns. Secondly, since we dont know how respawn will work in battlefields, trenches could become a defensive necessity. Likewise, if there are snipers located around the map, you wouldn't want to run out in the open and die within seconds. Also, trenches could offer a staging area for planning and carrying out assults/attacks and also be a HQ for a clan or group. Of course trenches have down sides, but doesn't all of war have down sides?

I say yes to trenches, perhaps they wont be as important as they were in WW1. But it would be nice if trenches were available, cuz they would be rather useful if your facing a larger force or if you just need to hide from sniper-wimps.

Another terrible idea from the folks that want Huxley to be another snipey, hidey, shooty WWII clone.
The developers have likened the combat mechanics to Unreal Tournament, have you ever played this game ? Do you have any clue at all what the play style is like ?

I'm not asking for the entire game to be a WWII clone. All I am asking for is trenches, especially in the huge, large scale 100 vs. 100 battles, and what better example for large scale gun battles than WWII? as modern battles are generally small gunfightsinvolving a squad of soldiers. Trench warfare is not all hidey and snipey; it is, in my opinion, more about mass charges and bum rushes. If they made Huxley into a game where you just sat in a hole for 3 hours, I would hate it.
