Default PvE In Huxley

OK, I know E3 is coming up and we are probably getting a ton of information from there. I however would like to know in a general sense what percentage of gameplay is PvP and what percentage is PvE.

The game pretty much revolves around PvP, PvE will simply be a means to gain level. Remember that you cant level just by PvE or just by PvP, you will need to do both. So PvE will be a means to PvP more effectivly. The game will be very centric on PvP, none of this end game raid grinding for hours like in WoW.

At least this is what I gether from the info so far. If you want my guess, it' be 20-35% PvE and the rest PvP, I could be very wrong though so dont quote me on that .

What percentage of the game will be PvE and what will be PvP remains an unknown. Kijong Kang however is focused on PvP. Based on his comments in interviews, we believe PvP will be the core essence of the game.

You acquire level in the game by building XP. You get XP by engaging in quests and PvE. Some of the PvE scenarios may include a PvP option. As you acquire Level you will gain the ability to acquire "Licenses". These Licenses are similar to the certifications in PlanetSide. I'm sure they are not exactly alike, but we have not seen any details on the Licenses yet. Every 10 Levels you acquire or "Unlock" new weapons and armor. These are classified by a Letter from A to E. Class A weapons can only be used by Levels 41-50 and Class E weapons are the starter weapons from 1 to 10. No specific details have been released concerning the classifications and statistics of the weapons. Anything you see on that subject is pure speculation.

As you engage in PvP you acquire Rank similar to the BattleRank in PS. Rank will enable a different set of Skills that will enhance your character. It is possible to play Huxley only in the PvE areas and make Lv50 quickly but it will become boring. You will have a Lv50 Private*. On the other side of the coin you could spend all your time in the PvP areas and acquire a high rank which could result in a level 1 General*. This may be fun and attractive to some but you won't get the weapons and armor unlocked from leveling in PvE. Focusing on one and not the other will cancel out one set of Skills or Licenses.

In order to properly develop your character you must enage in both PvP and PvE. Think of it as a set of stairs where you go vertically up a step as you level and horizontally forward as you acquire rank. try to do both at the same time or alternate as you advance.

* I use the ranks "Private" and "General" assuming that they may use those types of ranks. What the titles of the ranks are, we do not know, KK has not released that information yet.

They also said the PvE sections would be mixed with pvp.

Take the main trailer for example, one squad with the altereaver leader is on a mission to talk to this old guy in the sewers or thats what it looks like. Mean while a enemy squad is in the same instance on a different quest, mabye to assasinate the old man, what with the scopes aiming on him and all.

But then both teams get attacked by the mutants and a big ass fire fight occurs.

You get the picture, sometimes you may choose to work together against the mutants, the enemy of my enemy is my friend kinda thing. Other times you may just shoot everything.

I truly hope the PvE is the option and not the PVP.

If PvP is the "core" of the game, it wont be optional.

The devs already said that niether are optional and you MUST play both PVP and PVE in order to max your level. I think you gain two different types of experience in each game type and until you have enough of both you cant advance past certain key ranks (every 10 levels i think they said).

I think PvE allows you access to weaponary and veichles etc and pvp will give you access to better skills like double jump etc

Or it might be the other way around.

What i wanna know is why are ppl unhappy already about how much pvp or how little pve there will be. From everything i can see, this game will be PVP HEAVY, so if pvp isnt ur thing, u might wanna just find a new game to follow.

And no, im not being mean..but i see it all the time, FPS players join mmorpg and complain that the combat is point and click and all level based and its too slow and boring, RPG players join mmofps and complain that its too fast paced and they dont like only figthing they want some RP and there arnt any tradeskills.

it gets old fast .

Well hopefully they mix the best of both worlds in to this game. And that will hopefull minimalize the complaing. I say minimalize because there will never be a time when nobody complains. That is just how people are.

Quote:
"There are two different type of character development: vertical and horizontal. Characters become more skilled through the vertical development," Kang told us. "On the other hand, they could develop various gameplay styles through horizontal development." Here's how it works: your character will have a concrete level. The cap, when the game launches, will be 50, and you gain levels by acquiring experience. You gain experience, mainly, from playing through PvE content -- the various quests or tasks available to you as a member of your faction. Apart from the sort of gratification that's oh-so-important in MMOs, levels give you access to actual skills: things like the ability to double-jump, to equip better armor and weapons, and the like.

The second prong to Huxley's approach is the concept of "rank." Rank is much like level, except that you can only advance in this area by participating in PvP. This is the "horizontal development" that Kang was speaking about. He makes Huxley Studio's stance quite clear in this area: "As developers, we are putting more importance on horizontal development." So what does it earn you? Most importantly, early on your rank puts a hard cap on how high you can advance in level. So if you're mainly interested in shooting baby Hybrids, know that you'll eventually reach a plateau if you don't intersperse this with the occasional killing of actual players. Advancing in rank also grants you benefits in regards to meta-game functionality -- stuff like being able to form teams in PvP, give orders, arrange strikes, and the like.

Ultimately, though, Huxley is an FPS above all. It's much less about your character's game-given abilities and more about your reflexes and acumen for strategy. "High level in Huxley doesn't mean increased physical strength or speed," Kang said. "It means being able to use better weapons and armor." In other words, if you're a newb with a level 50 character, be aware that a level one with skills might just send you home crying. Your l33t weapon and phat armor won't necessarily give you an edge over an opponent's killer instinct.

Hope that sheds some light.

Yah with a mix, its bound to not please everyone. I am just really really hoping that it leans way towards PVP because I don't play RPG's any more.

To me grinding and grinding against bots hour after hour is not fun at all.

I think the game will focus more on PvP, this is cool, but I'm also glad they are making people focus of PvM too. I like to PvM based from my other MMo experiences. I was looking forward to have to buy weapons, armor, ect with a currency just like in any other MMO and the way you get that currency is through PvM. To me there is nothing funner than getting a group of chums and marching into the deadliest PvM area to kill the strongest there and then reap the benfits. I'm hoping Huxley enables this, I was looking forward to being able to PvM alot and have godly weapons or how other games call it "loot". I love the FPS aspect of the game, but I guess you can say I'm more into it for the RPG/MMO side.

The PvE wont be implemented in grind style.

I think it will all be based inside instances. What they'll effectively do is take the single player mission from offline FPS games and write them into a persistant world. So you'll be in town with a group of friends and you'll be given a mission to go retrieve a power cell or something that some hybrids stole.

So you get your group and head down into the sewers, where you'll have to go through the mission killing off hybrids, talking to NPCs getting directions until you find the hybrid who stole the powercell, pick it up and return it.

But mabye just mabye there might be an alternative group who picked up a mission to retrieve the powercell aswell, now you both want to complete your mission and your not particulaly the best of friends and down here in this sewer theres no guards keeping the peace. Who's to say both groups have to walk out alive. But during the ensuing fire fight, a hybrid controller takes advantage and launches a full scale attack. Fight the hybrids together with the alternatives or fight both the hybrids and the alternatives.

You get the idea, PvE as I see it and from what i've heard will be basically scripted in a way, within instances. Although, due to AI and enemy player interaction it will rarely be predictable.

I still don't see how fighting PvE over and over again, going back to base, selling crap, buying crap, and then doing another PvE mission...rinse...repeat...isn't grind.

Sounds like grinding to me.

Some like grind, some dont.

How you play the game is your choice. If you disregard levels you can keep PvE until 2010 if you want. Same way around, if you choose only to fight without ganing skills or new weapons you can choose to only PvP

You gain xp through PvE-ing but you have to PvP to pop the 10 lvl increment caps. PvP also allows you to gain ranks so you can lead squads n such,
