After seeing the topic about Devs playing Huxley, but to also build on my idea within the thread that Devs need to 'get in the mud.' I thought maybe instead of Devs doing everything that we need players to help them.
What I mean is it would be nice to see players involved more in games. I'm sure some players will play 24/7 and wonder how the heck they can get any more involved. The idea of being more involved is to see some sort of communal voice or voices who are players, who take the collective views of the player base to the Devs. Bring concerns of the people to the developers to better the game. This was one thing I enjoyed about DAoC is the class leads actually had some say or input about player issues. That is something I always find lacking in almost every game is the inability of the Devs or companies to not recognize or listen to the player base. Nothing is worse than company that moves with blinders or fans who exaggerate issues within the game. Both ultimately end in the game either being unplayable or failing miserable. Granted you could use the forum for that, but since I'm sure most of us know and have realized through the years in games is that forums tend to be the place where people vent, let out frustrations, and or brag about problems they have with a game. I wouldn't necessary consider that the type of environment to find level headed unbiased debates on how to fix issues. While that does happen from time to time, they are far and few in between. Now, would this be a viable idea for the future? I think so. This game is an FPS, but is carries the qualities of MMOs and everything within them. It won't be cut and dry as a normal FPS. From what we know now, I feel there will be a need for players to have a voice from within the game. |

/agree
This also applies to beta testing, where ppl should concentrate more on actual testing and submitting bugs instead of "just" having fun.

This is something game companies should be responsible for. VALVe, for example, pays close attention to the community. Maxis at EA is about the most involved I've ever seen; Will Wright reads a number of big forums related to his games.

Example = SWG That's a pretty extreme example but you're right. I guess I should retract a bit of my statement before. It's not that companies completely ignore player bases as they almost have to to a point. Why? The hardcore players and the rest of the players might not really understand some of the problems with a game outside of if I do A then B happens. People expect some sort of miracle fix, but it's not always so with programming. It could also lead a game down a wrong path listening to players fully all the time. I'm not doubting the makers of Huxley understand this, but this is a thread more in hopes they try to find a way to merge their own ideals with that of players to accomplish something more. |
