I'd much rather have it a la a planetside:
Need to repair? Get a repair gun and ammo. Need ammo? Loot a corpse. Need armor? Get a hand held repair tool and ammo.

You say crafters will have less weapon skill?? This is not WoW or any other mmorpg there are no weapon skills. Your "weapon skills" are your fps skills. If you know how to effiecently play a fps you should be fine. Unless being a crafter makes it so all your bullets go about 2 feet to the left of your crosshair I really dont see how it will make you any worse.

Crafting will lead the game far too close to an RPG of some sort. There's a line where it has to stop. Crafting is a good place for it. Simply said, crafting generally means PvE of some sort. Now, if crafting depended entirely on breaking down enemy tech, and using whatever you gain from actually killing other people, then it'd be great. However, any crafting that leads to more PvE... even crafting that leads to a bunch of goons running around a battlefield with no more purpose than to loot some corpses, needs to be stopped before the game ever opens. If you want to PvE and craft like a little carebear, go play WoW, or EQ2. There's tons of garbage for you to craft. Otherwise, shoot and kill people. That's what an FPS is for.
Edit: Any sort of loot system would be far worse, however. I'd much rather have crafting of some sort than having to go kill Super Mob of Death for Roflcannon +2. Seriously, if there is any system of loot in this game that will make PvE whores have any sort of weapon advantage, it'll turn into every other crappy MMO out there.

Crafting will cock things up.
If characters can craft, then there will be a tangible benefit for those who decide to do so. This means that anyone who ignores crafting will be at a disadvantage. This means that anyone who wants to be as tough as possible will be forced to craft. And then I murder crafters until I get tired and uninstall.

True. This isnt an MMORPG. You dont walk around staring at the ground looking for items and corpses for items. In a FPS you pawn any person that does that. I could just see, going into a battle zone and half the players are trying to find items to craft. It would get so boring, that the Players would cancel thier subscriptions and uninstall the game. It would get too boring. I can see a definite advantage at having crafters on your team, but wat if you find a crafter that is a veteran at FPS's and online and pawns anyone he sees. Then he would be to powerfull. Best weapons + Best armor + Kick ass skills = Never get touched.

Let the Game devs do there job. Dont give them any ideas until you have personally been in the game yourself because you have no clue what content will be introduced into Huxley when we get our first glimpse of real game play.
I hope there will not be any sort of corpse looting. That made WoW gay and it would make this game gay

A crafting and looting system really shouldn't be in this game, although I guess I wouldn't mind if it was something like planetside where you can just loot a corpse for some ammo or whatever, but I really would not be able to stand crafting in this game.
I'm just really hoping that the game will mainly be a mix between games such as Planetside, unreal tournament and BF2, a game where its skill and tactics which prevail, not whoever has the best gear.

Man people are getting HOSTILE about this.
And why do people keep posting dumb shit about issues ive already addressed? NO PvE CAMPING WILL BE INVOLVED The way I suggest items to be gained for crafting, is you press your scavange button and your character kneels down for 15 seconds. After that your given a small bit of junk, shell casings, armor fragments, etc. Then you cant use the ability again for like 10 minutes. You wont see people running around ONLY to find materials, they will do it during breif breaks in normal PvP battles. oh, and CRAFTERS WONT GET ANY SUPER GUNS/UPGRADES THAT AN NPC DOESNT ALREADY SELL Gawd. |
