In PlanetSide...
I think what happened was that people got the game and just could'nt get the hang of it They could not understand why they could not just get the same gun a BR20 Player had and run out on the battle field with it. And when the battle was not over in 10 mins that popped up a screen with how many kills they had accumulated ...they could not see a reason for playing the game. They disreguarded the fact that is was a full-scale war that never ends. (persistent) And that it was not in fact a "Death Match" style game. PlanetSide was a whole new concept to the FPS gaming world. When planet side first came out it was mad crazy fun. I remember the first time I loaded up the game and tried to play it. I hit the instant action button, and it took me to this tower that I kept trying to run out of and was killed every time. I was like "Dayum"...then I found out that I could choose to spawn at the base and it was safer there. I was able to run out with my guass rifle and actually see who all and what all was outside. There musta been 100 players out there trying to get into this base and this tower. That did it for me and for once I actually liked the idea of an FPS game. Until then I always thought "Yeah all FPS games are the same old thing just with different maps and different guns" but not PlanetSide. It was actually a well thought out plan for a game with a world that was torn by WAR! But, now alot of people have since left for other games. Mainly World of Warcraft, because it came out about the time they put BFR's in the game that no one really liked. So WoW was a great escape at the time for all those players...myself included. Unless this "Cannon Fodder" and the word of mouth from people slowly trickling back to the game helps to bring some numbers back the game will surley die. Because without numbers and massive battles PlanetSide is nothing...that is what that world thrives on...WAR! If SOE were to add new bases and towns (Content) to the game to fight over it would revive the battles of the game. A quick fix would be to redesgin some of the bases that are already there and apply different tactics to the way those bases were captured and taken over by the enemy.

Wow...go play Planetside then. In case you didn't notice this is a Huxley website and forums. People like myself could care less what you have to say about Planetside. Planetside had a lot of downsides to it that make the game suck. If you want people to play Planetside then go post this on the SOE forums because this is the wrong place to do it. As many reviews such as Gamespy's have stated. Huxley will be the first MMOFPS game to master the whole MMOFPS feel. Go cry about Planetside needing more people somewhere else.

Quit being idiots guys...this guy is just talking about the "ONLY" other MMOFPS. dont be so damn negative...PS was a pretty decent game and I hope that Huxley can add to what Planetside was trying to accomplish. Planetside "IS" the 1st and for that I give it props, for without Planetside there might not be a Huxley!!!

MMOs die. I don't see anybody complaining about Ultima Online not recieving any support anymore. Eventually something bigger and better will come along and Huxley will fade away.

It may. But you think halo 2 would have faded away by now. But see games can usually get a fan base if they are good games. So a lot of people could probably get into this game and stay on there for a long ass time. WoW hasn't faded yet either. been what a year and a half now?

Planetside was an amazing game, damn near one of the best. But in time, it lost so much of what was great about it. What Copenhagen is showing ith the game is how it was an excellent game but over time it lost itself and community. Now, from reading these forums, a very large portion of the community seems to come from PS. The developers should take that into account and see where SOE went wrong to pull more players.
It is foolish to not compare this to PLanetside or WWIIOL for that matter. Without the basis of comparrison, there is no real way to determine the quality of a game. If all we had to play was Pong, that would be the best game with the best graphics. Copenhagen has some very valid points. I play Planetside still, and I'm very interested in the future of Huxley as well. So, my opinion of Huxley will be largely based on my opinion of Planetside, especially if the game claims to be an MMFPS. |
