well yeah its true that thier trailer is better than any trailer PlanetSide ever put out.
But, whether you think so or not alot of people actually still play PlanetSide and alot of people still belive it it the best MMOFPS or FPS that they have ever played. Of course you obviously don't like it so you can't see how anyone else can. But Every game (thats worth looking at) usually gets a fan base that likes it and will play it up till they shut the servers off. Your completly missing the point here. You just keep wanting to run SOE or PlanetSide or Both into the ground because they did'nt do something that you expected out of the game and/or any SOE game. Which is fine i'm cool with that you have every right to be disappointed in a gaming developer. But, the point you keep missing is that although you may not like SOE or their games there are people that do. And Huxley is trying to target those players as well as players like yourself. SOE's most popular game to date is Ever Quest...it is their baby...thats what they are going to funnel their money into and that is just the way its going to be. So, if you don't like EverQuest your probably not going to like any SOE game because they are not going to put half the time into any of their other games like they are going to with EverQuest...EverQuest 2 to be exact. And, although they may have got the original EQ from someone else and they may have not done some things that people wanted or liked in it. You don't have an MMO up on server cluster (which are very costly) for 6 or 7 years. So, they were doing something right for people to keep playing it for so long and to get so addicted with it. When we look at MMO's in general, esp if we are a gaming developer we don't look at what people are going to like about the game as much as we do "What is going to make gamers keep paying a subscription fee everymonth for a long time to come just to play my game?" Answer: "Time Sink". And Death Matches and Capture the Flags arent excatly "Time Sinks". Most logical minded regular FPS'ers will say "Shoot man, I can do this for free in UT" Although we can't completely rule out what people like or dont like. This is the main focus. Keeping subscribers. And that my friend is what SOE is very good at. Whether we want to admit it or not. True they may be a dying company by now...that just may very well be true. But if we want to look at being successful we must look at people that are ...or at least once were successful. What do they do to be so successful? That is what we want to do as well...and we want to do it even better or more so. In any event you can just relax, because i'm not trying to shove anything down your throat. I'm just simply debating MMO's here. That is the whole point here anyway. And being as we dont have any "Good" "Meat" to sink our teeth into for Huxley that is about all we have to do at this point anyway.

"Didn?t PlanetSide patent the supersized, persistent-world shooter? Not so, says Huxley?s lead designer Sang Hun Kim: ?We?re making the first true MMOFPS. Sony?s game was good?we hold its strategy and innovation in the highest regard and have spent long hours in it?but it lacked the intensity and twitch factor of stuff like Unreal Tournament or Quake. Huxley?s PVP is fast and powerful. We?re placing more weight on players? skill than on their characters? stats so that a talented player can prevail over a better-armed enemy, even with a basic rifle. Plus, we?re offering compelling single-player and cooperative components along with extensive community support. Huxley is huge, a persistent world where players own individual housing, interact with NPCs, and build relationships with other users. Its narrative and gameplay connect naturally to each player?s growth. You won?t find these features in PlanetSide.? -Sang Hun Kim
They are puttin PS in the dirt.. saying it shouldnt be considered the first real "MMOFPS" planetside is dirt to them |

Yeah no one can really say Planetside was the best mmofps, mainly because there has never been one b4. Don't get me wrong I played PS for 2+ years and loved it. I believe they started with a great idea/game and it slowly got dumbed down. I hope that in the making of Huxley it will lead to more MMOFPS' as well as different ones. But to compare the two imo is kinda silly when they are two different engines and will be very different gameplay.

Shocked at some of the mindless replies and can see a few forum trolls developing, such a shame.
Perhaps this was the wrong forum to post, no need to be rude about it just say its the wrong forum and move on.

That's not the problem, it's just the subject.
We have quite some (ex)planetside players here and making statements about that game will result in heated debates (or rightout flaming). It's not unlike making a statement about politics, religion, or gendertypes. (first one trying to test this here will get a shot to the head... by the first moderator I can find  ) |

So, if we are good at Planetside, does this mean we will most likely be good at Huxley? Or is it if we are good at UT, then we should be good at Huxley?

I agree with copenhagen, planetside was and is a very good game with still many players playing it, including myself and it is useful to compare it to Huxley because they are two of a kind and possibly the only two of this category. I know some people may say planetside is strategically based but I assure you if players from ps don't switch to Huxley it won't be because it isn't as 'strategic'
oh and btw, this is my first post in these forums :D anyone know the code to get your sig to show? |
