Default Old School Planetside Fan

I used to play planetside from release. I was one of the more hardcore players on Markov, I absoutly loved that game up till they made it so you cant surge + shoot but anyways I was curious for those who have been reading up on huxley for months, I just found out about a week ago about this game on how similar it was to planetside. Are they keeping it preety much the same ? Very simple leveling every level rewarding you with small upgrades or going more MMO'ish where gear is a big part of pvp and theres more PVE content or is huxley going to be pure pvp like planetide? thanks !

Instead of just exploring and finding a huge battle like in Planet side, there will be battle portals that will send you to Halo 2 and Unreal type maps, But the good news is the battle portal maps will be massive with 100 vs 100.

I have one concern with the 100 vs 100 battles..What about the lag? I reckon it will be pretty immense considering different countries have different internet speeds.

They will use a different sever for each region . Like U.S. east, U.S. west, Europe, Asia.

I don't think that Servers will solve the Lag issue we are surely going to face,Look at Wow and other mmos.Thier big battles lag the %$^ out of the game.

I'm pretty sure Webzen will purchase a nice up to date set of servers.

Blizzard is using the same servers since launch most liekly because converting is extremely costly and time consuming. Why fix whats not broken.

So hopefully webzen won't use their old servers for SUN and their othergames and hopefully get some nice newer hardware.

Planetside is a better game and from what I've seen will remain a better game. It seems to me that alot of people interested in huxley never played or know nothing about planetside. But planetside never got the marketing that it should have so I am not suprised by that. Webzen hasn't shown anything to indicate this game will have any thing special to it beyond nice graphics and super fast paced shooting.

I don't know if you guys realize, but there is a huge community out there that loves fast paced shooters. The Unreal Tournament series is huge and even Quake is still popular. So yeah lots of people used to play planet side and yeah it was fun, but honestly we don't know enough about how Huxley will work to say that PS will always be a better game 100%.

yeah sure maybe the biggest battles you'll see will only be 100 vs 100, but more doesn't always mean better. Webzen did tests with higher and lower numbers and found that 100 vs 100 works the best and is the most fun.

We have no information as to whether continents will be able to be captured or not (however there are screenshots of a map showing different continents or at least countries/territories --http://huxley-evolved.com/huxley/screenshots/?g2_itemId=802--), but we do know that places on battlefields can be captured and that when these places are captured, there are affects on both enemy and friendly cities (it has been described as "the standard of living goes down or up" or something like that, as well as the possibility of power going out in portions of a city).

Also, we really don't know how big the battlefields are going to be, so saying that they're going to be bigger or smaller than planetside is impossible to know. The only info we have on that is that the capital cities are gigantic and the battlefields are also super big. Which obviously doesn't tell us anything except that I guess we can assume they won't be like CS maps or something.

And with lag, it all kind of depends. just because there are 200 in a battle, they aren't necessarily all blasting away at each other in the same area, so that will help with lag. Also WoWs servers were completely horrible when the game came out and it's not too bad anymore (unless there's something I don't know about lol).

SO, to summarize...Yeah Huxley isn't Planetside and it's not trying to be. We don't know enough about Huxley to say it's going to be a god, or to say it's going to live in the shadow of what PS used to be. We can just hope for the best and learn about it as info gets released. In the end we're all just going to have to give the game a chance to see if we really like what they've done with it.

sorry to all you planetside fans who were hoping Huxley was going to be a PS clone with better graphics to bring back the glory days. It's just not going to happen.

If anything, Huxley and PlanetSide are equals, depending on the player.

Huxley promises large character development and customization, while also having PvE combat and a loot system.

PlanetSide on the other hand needed more strategy, but was more repetitive than it needed to be. (All the buildings were pretty much the same D

So yes, the games are both different AND each have their own strong points, I believe that which game is better varies from person to person.

I myself have UT'04 and the Invasion mod which adds leveling and PvE against monsters and dungeon bosses. Just the ticket to practice for Huxley.
I have also played Vanu Sovereignty, riding around on Conglomerate territory in a cloak suit capturing towers that are major spawn points for them - BEFORE any wars broke out, then my guys would swoop in and make easy pickings because all the good spots were taken. Blah blah blah (Giving myself too much credit) Blah blah.

I type too much.

Better game maybe, it died 2 years ago at least though. Barely anyone plays that game anymore, i quit a year ago and not looking back.. stayed that long because i thought it might get better.. it didn't. PS w/ no pops: worse than a 64 player game of BF2142.

Its strange. Ever since Ive heard about this game (which is a lot longer than Ive been on these boards) Ive been more hyped about deep character customization/class system than I have been about gigantic battles (I used to think 16 v 16 was enormous!). I like the Idea of standing out, which probably means I would hate planetside. I dont think more people makes a game better.

The big problem that killed Planetside was BFRs (read: Big Fu--ing Robots) the free gameplay was to try and revive it, and then they stopped that so now the games just going to die completely. Sad, very sad, considering it was a Sony product it could have had much better advertising.

The problem with the straight up FPS community is that there are so many pure FPS shooters out there to satiate the desires of any one. Why pick Huxley? That's how the developers needed to be thinking to win competition over in an American market. There's lots of good games on the American market, but Huxley offers long term characters that progress, a wider variety of weapons, skills, and graphics to boot.

Hopefully they will add a large scale battlefield that requires tactics (a map with two large bases, one central contested base and multiple capture points [bunkers] complete with trenches, foxholes, artillery... just an idea) to satisfy the precise tactics some players get off on (the Outfit Sturmgrenadiers comes to mind)

The market for a FPS shooter is rife with competition, which could prevent sales and have players leaving the second a new FPS comes out. Webzen needs to make this game have staying power to last 5+ years. They need to know that there's a complete lack of any game comparable to Planetside, and there are a lot of people who experienced that game and just aren't satisfied with anything else anymore.

I hope Huxley has everything listed in the quote above and even more. I remember playing on Markov from day one of release and really enjoyed the FPS/MMO experience. I do remember getting tired of invading a continent, just to log out later that night and lose it. I really hope Huxley can give players a "Reason" or purpose to engage in conflict. If owning a certain area or taking it over gave the faction the ability to craft or create certain weapons/armour/vechicles, that would be a strategic place to defend and capture.

What strategic elements would you guys like to see in the game?

Markov

Superdano

Planetside was a good game I'll agree with that. But the devs killed it. The current population is in a decline that with all the tampering they're doing is just going to get worse and worse. As long as Webzen listens to the community as a whole, hopefully there won't be a reapeat.
