Yeah, I lost interest in this game when I saw the videos... I was hopid for lots of tactics and quite a bit slower than it is... I'm back though. I'll still get this game.

Personally I wouldn't mind if it was even faster. The faster the game, the more skill it takes to master it. The game can still be tactical.

They say once you near lvl 50, group tactics become highly emphasized.
So hopefully, even a person who cannot go beyound the average reaction time of 0.25 seconds, will still be able to contribute in other ways...
Reguardless, people with slow reaction times can still take out people with quicker reaction times. It all falls into the realm of exploiting other player's weaknesses...
For instance, what happens when you stick your foot out infront of somebody who is running really fast down a hall?

only one thing to say on this matter is that , no matter the speed of the game ... even tough slow pace fps are wwwwwaaaaayyyyyy better than fast pace one it all depend on how huxley will bring it on ... i hate game like unreal tournment because people just jump around and shoot rocket or anything ... i prefer cs:s type ... slower but harder ... you have to learn how to use the weapon .. how many bullet a burst can take before going wild on the recoil ... no recoil game can be really boring since people just jump like rabbit and shoot everywhere and end up winning the fight ... so it could completely ruin huxley ... i first hoped huxley wouldnt go around like halo3 ... what i mean is that some games creators started to think how to make more money over how to make the game more intense or make the skill lvl of the player the reason of who win the fight ... they all slowly start to make the game for noobs .. since if the game is easier to play for noob , they will buy it ... wich is the complete wrong way of thinking ... they remove the "skill" and make place to the noobness ...think this is completely wrong . SO lets hope huxley creator will be smart enough to make huxley a game that will need skill to shoot .... need skill to win ... look at halo3 ... went from 2 millions players the first week but went to 1 millions the second week and lose player everyday since they ruined everything trying to make noob more able to play ... DO NOT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE WITH HUXLEY ... if noob cant kill or cant make it trough this game then too bad , some will just play more and try to get better but some will leave ... that cant be changed but youll still lose less player .. cuz if you make this game for noob , skillful player will get bored not to be able to dominate noobs more , and noob will be pissed of the fact that a 5 years old kid who do not even understand what the game is about can still kill them ... any1 who play halo3 or already stopped playing halo3 understand what i mean ... so this is something huxley people should really be aware of ...
im a gamer who always make it into the world top player ... not the 1rst since i have a life :P but i won against the best player of a good amount of game on console and also do pretty great on pc ... so im use to play game , from fps to rpg and sport game ... so trust me , all i just said isnt randomly said ... Well i like Team fortress 2 , Unreal 3 and Half Life 2 and i also enjoy slow paced games like G.R.A.W, BF2 and Halo 2 so i can adapt to game styles of speed. I couldn't adapt to the new Xbox pads so i had to retire my Xbox gaming and go PC fulltime.

Talk to anyone who has been in a decent UT2K4 clan or any other fast pace FPS clan. There is a lot more strategy that goes into it than you think.

Sure if you just play on random servers without a clan you're going to see everyone running around mostly at random and just killing anyone they can see. But if you join a clan (or try to fight against a clan) you'll see that they do it differently.

I've talked to a few guys who went over how their clans would attack an enemy base a certain way and from certain angles so that the enemy would fall back to positions in a certain formation. Everything was planned out and once they get the enemy in the right position they rush in and take them all out.

Just because it's fast doesn't mean there aren't any tactics. If you want to play tactically you just have to find a group of people who want the same thing and work out strategies with them.

I must say I agree about the speed, although there are ofc tactics involved in "fast" fps similiar to the videos shown about Huxley, its to random for my taste.
A lot of the combat videos I've seen from Huxley are people jumping up and down firing every way hopening to get some random shots in.
Personally I much prefer the style of Rogue Spear, Ghost Recon, Rainbow Six, etc or for that matter CoD, MoH.. The "slow" type of fps.

True most of the gameplay videos do show people jumping around spraying bullets everywhere but we have to remember that these are just people testing the game.

It's not like we're seeing footage of clan vs clan fighting. They seem like pretty basic deathmatch and team deathmatch games so we can't expect to see a whole lot of organization.

No matter what you see in videos or hear from other people, you can always play the game how you want to play it. If you want to run in a jump around with a rocket launcher then go for it. But if you want to take your time and find a spot with some good cover and move forward more slowly with your squad, you can do that too.

For all those who don't like jumping and spraying and randomly shooting everywhere, I'd suggest waiting until you play in a clan or at least with a somewhat organized group of people. That can really change any game and I'm sure who you play with in Huxley will effect how much you like the game.

I enjoy UT3s game speed ,tho most of the game is spray and pray it just depends what gun you have at the time.

The other night i went into UT3 in a local TDM server and i was kicking ass first map i came 2nd in my team and i joined 1/2 way through a match, the other 2 rounds i played i came first on my team it was great, I had some hard base music going in winamp and i could have sworn the music made me play better i kept checking behind and my sides like every 1.5 sec anyone would have thought i was on crack lol

I am the alpha and the omega!

I agree that partly it is up to how you choose to play the game. But the major part is how the game is implemented.
If you implement jumping to boost your speed with no effect on your aim, its more beneficial to jump 24/7 because you will be a harder target to hit.
If you implement jumping so it doesnt boost your speed and that it has a negative effect on your aiming together with that your stuck trying to get your balance back for 1-2 sec after landing. The benefit of jumping is gone.
What does it matter might you ask yourself? Well.. for me it adds realism, and it makes things "look better". Have you ever watched a cool science fiction action movie where people jumping around like frogs?

And if you added recoil to your weapons, that your aim is worse while moving, you being shot triggers you to move and thus your aim gets worse, your aim gets better while standing still. All this adds even more to the realism of the game. And dont think it will just be slow and boring, it takes nerves to run into an enemy, stop moving, stand still for 2 sec while your aim stabilises when your enemy is going full auto with his gun at his hip, you make 2 short burst to his body and he goes down. You turn around to see bullet holes all over the wall behind you.

Add to this slow reload speed, slow change of weapon, limit to the number of weapons you can carry (and ammo), etc..

Well.. we'll see, I guess most of us have different opinions on how the game should be and as the game is in beta testing, a lot of this is already set. I've been looking forward to this kind of game for some time now (got bored at WoW), I just hope I will not be dissapointed.

What you're saying isn't wrong Roland, like you said some of these things are linked. However Twitch games are notorious for being fast paced games and adding major recoil and other "reality" factors usually aren't a part of those types of games because they don't match.

If people are allowed to dodge a lot by jumping, strafing or no quick deaths, the game are always either recoil-less or have a very minimal amount of recoil. One counterbalances the other.

Personally I like both twitch games (UT series, Quake, etc...) and slower shooters (DoD, CS) but I don't believe that one type has more stretegy involved then the other, one type might look more strategic but if you look at things a lot closer you'll see it's just a different form of strategy.

Anybody can play UT without tactics on a public server, but you can do the same thing in non twitch games. As long as you aren't confronted with strategy you don't need to use it. This is exactly the way these games were meant to be, seeing as some people just want to play the occasional game to have a little bit of fun and not spent their time strategising every little move they make. On the other hand the games still allow you to strategise so the people who want to spent time thinking their moves still get something out of it.

Huxley will have 12 classcombinations, each with their own playstyle due to the skills and the types of guns, now add BGs that will have multiple objectives. If you're playing a random BG with little to no stategy, just going around blasting enemies, you'll still be able to win, but if you want, you can use strategy by making squads and giving orders (albeit this might be hard in a random BG since people tend to get all pissy when you try to organize everything) and thus add to your winning chances.

Webzen knows what they are doing, if they said "we want Huxley to be fastpaced" it will be fastpaced but you can bet they'll try hard to allow a strategy factor in the game. It might not be blatantly obvious but it will be there.

I'm pretty sure there won't be unlimited ammo since you can see ammo pickups in the videos.

I know a lot of people are hoping that this game is going to be PlanetSide but better. And I had plenty of fun playing PS but Huxley is going to be a different game and could definitely have a lot to offer. We just gotta keep an open mind about everything.

Right..

I would argue that a "slow"-paced fps demands more skills and tactical awareness, but I'll settle with that there is just different type of skills needed.

When we're talking about "slow" we're not thinking of UT with the speed turned down. We're talking about a lot less "forgiving" and random fps. For example, Rogue Spear there are/where no "respawn" and you die of 1-3 hits (depending on weapon, armor and where the bullet hit). And speed, AIM and coolness is everything. If your first shot on target is 0.01 sec faster then your opponent, you win and he'll loose. And it wont be just 10 sec waiting for the next respawn. Have you seen Sin City? where Bruce Willis is aiming from his car in the car chase? He takes his aim before he gets his shot in, while the shooter in the car following is "just" spraying bullets.

Anyways.. the discussion is not about if its too fast for us to handle, its if the speed and the type of fps that Huxley seems to be will make it more "random" and more "luck-based" than tactical.
