this kind of reminds me of a PC vs console debate lol. each side likes their side the best and then there are those who like both. And in all of the debating people get lost in pointless side notes (such as which takes more skill)
Personally I think Huxley could work as a slow or fast paced game. As of now it looks like it'll be a fast paced game so there you go. And if you really want to play Huxley but you want to slow things down a bit, then instead of running in blasting, take the time to find a nice spot to sit with your sniper or just lay down cover fire for your buddies (yes even in fast paced game cover fire can help)

I've been finding a refreshing mix with COD4 lately. Between hardcore vs standard servers and 50 player vs 18. Same game, same levels, different playstyles. To each his own.

I was extremely interested in this game at first.
But then like the OP said, I saw the footage and immediatly got turned off. Yes, fast, twitch style works for some games. And I am sure there will be some tactics. But in the end, I am not sure if this game is going to have balance. You are all comparing it to UT and Quake. Yes, those games took some skill, but the gameplay in it generally revolved around who had the rocket launcher. I do not want my 1v1s to come down to who can spam the space bar and who has the better splash damage. Also, with a game speed this fast, I imagine the lat issues are going to be much more prominent, and we all know that MMOFPS lag is the worst lag of any game in any genre. It's Warhammer for me, until they release a planetside 2. |

Honestly speaking.... a straight up tactical style persistent shooting world where you pay to play just would not appeal to a more general potential subscriber base.
Hold your horses a bit and let me explain... In most all good tactical shooters the weapons are 1s1k (one shot one kill) style of play and this leads itself very well to a tactical style match in play. But if you are trying to get a large population base to play and pay for your game, its very hard to have such pvp-centric type of game. UT style of play lets one survive a bit longer (while still probably getting destroyed if you aren't that good), and still give the player the perception of being able to fight back. In the end its about trying to make the game more approachable to a general public as well as the hardcore. Even games like RSV and CoD4 have tactical elementals (like huxley claims to), but the combat is still pretty arcade in execution. There is always the hope that they could release servers with a different rule set as we know the UT3 engine is very versatile and make it more tactical (like the original Rainbow Six series). Then again....really alot of people like to play mmos to feel like gods/goddess and if you always have to worry about how silent you are or how many times you can or can not jump etc etc.....it might bore people. Who knows, there is no right or wrong to the tactical approach we just have to live with the fact that huxley will not be as tactical as some of the best tactical shooters out there and pray for a special ruleset server! |

Are you kidding me? Games like Halo 3 have a slower gamespeed, and are NEVER 1 shot one kill, with the exception of headshots with the sniper rifle and direct hits with the power weapons.

Although I would like the idea of a special rules server. Then again, with the game being in beta, it is totally possible for them to turn the speed down when they get some feedback.
