I don't know how to get it started with there being no servers listed and all. Do I make my own and invite friends? I just installed it.
Basically I couldn't understand the first timer instructions.

You have to go to Connection, quick connect, then put in server info and such. That how I do it, works fine.

You buy a server and get your info up for others to connect to you, thats how it works. If you connect to others, you need the correct info and a username and a password for it to work.

the software can act as a server.
so you can actually join an existing server by filling out the info in connect, or you start one yourself and tell friends hwo to connect to you. Then there are servers that host that stuff for you. Some need you to sign up/pay/whatever. and some are free. look around. |

With either Team Speak or Ventrilo, if your trying to host a servr yourself you have to download the server software as well and set up a server.
Then you'll have to use that information to connect to it with the client software. You'll also need to give that information to all your buds so they can connect to it as well. Ventrilo will allow you to host a 8 man server for free, if you need more than that you'll have to go to some gaming site and buy one from them they will usually sell you a Ventrilo server for about what ever size you need 15, 20, 30, 50 and so on. (Dedicated server sites) Team Speak I belive you can host your own server and you can have how ever many people you want connect to it but I may be wrong. However, you can also purchase hosted Team Speak servers from gaming sites as well. (Dedicated server sites) Teamspeak usually has a really crapy codec by default...you can get server with the better codec (Voice/Sound Quality) to but better codec =more bandwidth which =more money. Ventrilo has a really good codec by default. And IMHO is a better program. The only problem that I have ever encounterd with Ventrilo is the fact that sometimes when someone is trying to transmitt something and someone leaves the server/channel or connects to the server/channel ...it will mess up that persons codec to where there voice is all scratchy and you can't understand what they are saying. But if they disconnect and reconnect it fixes it. Its got something to do with the sound drivers. It has never messed up my voice though and I use SoundMax. And it don't happen all the time either just every now and then.

You know...your about one of the most presumptuous people I think i've met in quite a while. Just wanted you to know that.
Are you a female? or like the Manager or something where you work at? or maybe the class leader if your still in school? You just have this Vanguard personality. Just because they put out some interview with someone like 1 year before the game is released ...barely going into a alpha beta stage...don't excatly mean everything you read about the game is written in stone at this point. Quite Frankly...none of us really know excatly what all the game is going to entail at this point. Thats why we are all on here saying this or that and bringing up all sorts of idea of what we might like to see in the game. Just about every interview i've seen (and I've looked at alot at this point) usually ends with "We are'nt going to give to many details about that right now" and " We are not going to reveal to much at this point about that right now"...Which tells me one of two things: 1.) They haven't got all the bugs worked out of it yet. and... 2.) They don't really know if they might have to make a change and completely remove that from the game or completely revamp it. Which basicly means that they are not completely sure either what the game is excatly going to be like once you get it yourself as the end user. All, I'm saying is your to quick to jump in and say "Nope, nope...this is the way its going to be...this is just the way its going to be right here." Now, either you a very anxious person and complusive, or you don't have very much experiance in dealing with the fact that alot of times people say one thing...but it winds up being something completely different. Now you can get upset and with me, or whatever...I really don't care to be honest. I'm just trying to help you understand that "That just might not be the way its going to be, when its all said and done with" Which will make it less upsetting to you when that is indeed the case. Everything your've read about this game thus far is basicly to give you an "Idea" of what the game is going to be like. Nothing is concrete at this point about Huxley. Now here in a few months when they have the E3 thing, and/or shortly thereafter when places like IGN and GameSpy start getting their hands on a beta copy of the game and they have private or closed beta and stress testing...then yeah...at that point things are going to become more clearer and concrete. Futher more...even if it is indead the case, the way you approach people and their ideas to "squish them promptly" is a little ...well...bullish and alot of people might not take to that very well. __________________________________________________ ___________ Now, ...yeah I like the idea of customizing weapons and like maybe adding scopes or laser pointers and or larger clips and stuff to your weapons very cool idea.

Anyway, however blunt Lexion put it, he has a valid point concerning lag. Every time a player comes within your 'sphere of influence', your game client has to ask the server all the values that makes up a character model. That's a value for every costumizable piece. A small list as example:
And also consider the fact that your game-client has to create a 3D-model of this person and then, has to apply the EXTRA items on him, like armour, weapon, color clothes, certain effects. On my machine (geforce4mx, 256MB ram) I can HEAR if there is a new player around by the sound of my harddisk wirring to register some extra virtual memory. Although my system doesn't bare comparison to the average system, it is a good indication howmuch extra stress the data of a new player poses. The timeframe that is needed to load the position of a couple of 'cosmetic' features could be used to tell the server that you 'twitched' out of the way of that sniper bullet. |

Copenhagen, my good man, speculation is all fine though facts remain until changed and thats how I will approach it. If youre 10 years old you might go all haywire about cool things they could do and add but my experience is that it rarely happens after the games core mechanics are announced.
So, instead on commenting on what I said (you dont flame right? you said so in another post), simply answer with what you THINK will happen and keep ignoring facts where as I will continue to post current facts so ppl are informed. Agreed, mmm k?

I'm not the person you want to get into a "whos right and wrong " war with.
..Why? Cause I dont really give a shite ...thats why. I'm just telling you that some people (Not counting myself) Don't want to hear your shite. And dont want you running all their ideas in the ground with one of these every time you open your mouth: "Nope, nope by-god i'm right and your wrong and that is the way its going to be" I'm just trying to help you. Because if it slighty bothers me that you think your right and everyone else is wrong all the time on every topic someone brings up...I pretty dayum sure other people get bothered by it as well. But I am not the object of discussion here, I'm just letting you know what other people might think about you or the opinion that they might develop about you, based on your replys to ther topics. (People skills) I'm just trying to help you...is all 8) All, i'm really saying is that you might want to take a different approach to making your point other than: "Nope, nope this is the way it is, right here! This is the way of it!"

For once I agree with Copenhagen. Many of Lexion's posts seem to follow the format of "No [insert lack of reason here]." I was going to say something at some point, but Copenhagen already did.
Anyhow, I did a quick search on Lexion's posts, and these are just a few from only the first page: "The middle part will be persistant, not timed and reset." "Nope, thats not gonna happen. Not only that, more customization = more lag." "Ok, Ill say this again. Youll have both. Theyve stated it to be like a big island in the middle surrounded by smaller islands. The middle part is persistant, the smaller islands are instanced..." "There will be both. Yoru char will be in a persistant world and keep stats just as any other MMO. There will be instances called battle zones where clan on clan and other PvP stuff ..." "The main battle zone will be open 24/7 most likely. The instances are more like arenas where you challenge and invite. This is of course qualified guesses, not 100% actual facts." "There will be no fighting in the cities or the player owned blocks. Forts inside the battle zones is something else though and remains to be seen if itll happen." "Listen up, its both. Youll have instances for clan on clan and a persistant battle field for the 120 man war." Interesting, eh? Maybe he knows something about the game that we don't, since none of that information is stated anywhere else.

Thats a very good point...actually. But would that not mean that you just need a good video card and connection (I.E. Cable Modem, or DSL)? They are already talking about their proprietary network and streaming technology...that is supposed to be able to support some pretty remarkable things. Maybe Huxley can handle more than previous MMOs could? __________________________________________________ ___________ Syphonbyte wrote: Quote:

Copenhagen I love you for being who you are, theres one of you on each forum.
Speulate all you want, Ill be there to correct you. If theyve said "no fighting in safe zones, which is the race cities", I will state the same. I dont get why you have a problem with that. Im not gonna jump on the bandwagon with things that are too far fetched to ever be implemented, even though they might be good ideas. "Customize hair and face" yes, they said that. "Customizable weapons"? Nope, I will say the same until they change it. But I dont think they will cause of lag issues. I can keep going, but I think you get my drift. Its been the same for 10 years with MMOs n FPSs, its just how it is. All Ive posted can be found around the game sites and interviews. Would you you like me to post it all so you get it? Or maybe put a referal each time I post perhaps? lol
