Default Competitive Gaming

How many here are involved or have been involved in competitive gaming? When I say competitive gaming I mean the various leagues, MLG, CPL, EGL, WSVG and all the rest. I'm just asking because I'm interested in seeing how viable a clan/guild open only to past tournament attendees would be. Honestly who could touch us if we all teamed up.

Ummm most people would rather join or make there own clan. Rather then a site where your treated lile U.S troops, unheard, unseen, no respect.

But in smaller clans you get far more attention and respect, and in the right clan, lots of team work.

Feel free to join the SteelWolves! Join the forum where everyone tries to take in others opinion ^^

There are a lot of people that don't attend widely known, or tournaments at all for that matter, that are still incredibly talented individuals. The assumption that a bunch of tournament attendees would be untouchable, though rational, is a bit closed-minded. There have been a number of players I've played with in a several games
(Gears of War, Shadowrun , Halo, UT2K4, Quake III, etc.) that were phenomenal, but never really cared to join any competitive circuits.

I realize there are good players out there who will never attend tournaments but you have to admit that it is a great tool for weeding. The players that have attended tournaments or who have been actively involved in competitive gaming are more talented than other players simply because of there past experiences. By having a clan made up of players who are already good players you put yourself at an early advantage. Sure somebody else might be as good, but they might not have a bunch of other strong players backing them up. Sure they might be able to call out things to the people around them, but the team wouldn't be able to react with the precision of players who have been in situations similar hundreds of times.

Basically it would be a bunch of players who all play customs/privates versus sixty people who are the equivalent of pub/matchmaking kids. I honestly don't see the pub/matchmaking kids getting more than a handful of kills.

Hay this is a video game! Why do ppl take multiplayer so damn seriously?

With Huxley, it's has a good strategy element to it. You could be a god of fps's but with no strategy, they may pwn people without a good plan of attack with pure run"n"gun skill.
Or may have a hard time fighting in a recreation of starwars ep1 droid battle lol

But never know.

People take multiplayer seriously because doing so can be fun and rewarding. People take sports seriously for the same reasons. Really the question here is why shouldn't you take video games seriously. Usually the answer involves the hordes of idiots which often circulate through a game ruining the experience for those taking the game seriously. The trick to avoiding this when taking things seriously is to get involved with a more serious community and not just troll the equivalent of a public match.

No good player is NOT a god at the FPS genre strictly due to aim, at high levels of play a great shot is extremely important but a solid mind and in depth knowledge are the key to victory. Thats the entire point of forming a clan around past competitors. Good players from other games have already proved they can excel in a tech/magic shooter through Shadowrun.

So anyways, anyone here been involved in the past and want to hook up come release?

I'm going to start a clan for Huxley, I'll gather my legion and put together a full 100 man batallion and head out for glorious battle in the Huxley universe.

As we march onto the battlefield we will all group up in organized ranks at the front lines providing cover for our teammates. Then I'll give the order and we'll all put our guns away and charge into battle! Once we reach enemy lines we'll all dance infront of our enemies and say we just want to be friends!!!

As we all get mowed down we'll continue dancing and giggling like little school girls.

Then we'll all respawn, I'll order the troops to get in a giant single file line, and we'll all charge in again, keeping in the single file line so 1 person can just open fire and kill us all one by one.

It will be glorious!!!!!!!!

Then I'll have everyone use their sprint ability and we'll all run up to the enemy and sprint around in circles (imagine...100 people sprinting around in circles, I can see it now! so amazing!)

For the rest of the battle we'll gather around each other and shoot missiles at the ground and watch as all our bodies fly back in a pretty display of Huxley graphics.

Good times.

Wait...did I just ruin my chances to join?

lol no offence to anyone who plays tournaments, I'm sure it would be lots of fun. But I have to say running in with 100 unnarmed people against 100 others with guns would be lots of fun to me :D

oh man, even more fun if they had a punch move or something for when you were out of ammo and you didn't have a knife or something. So we could all just run up to the enemy and try to puch them to death lol, might notwork since they'll all have giant armor on and everything.

Sigh..............as long as you have fun, WHO CARES? If you win once in awhile, great, lose often then not, thats ok.

You people need to get back to reality, games are games and playing is fun, thats it.

Huxley will be fantastic though.

I see what you mean, but I was thinking more along the lines of 'players who play customs and attend tournaments' vs 'players who play customs and dont attend tournaments'. heheh...I don't really see the need to play at MLG, CPL, WSVG or any other major tournament, But I still play customs under their gametypes and setups. But yeah, not all the clans that are going to play Huxley are going to a major tournament; and some of those clans can be outright ridiculous at the game.

Agreed. Key essentials for competitive gaming in team-based shooters:
  • Strategy
  • Team Shooting
  • Communication
You can still play games competitively and still have fun with it. Playing competitively, excelling and challenging yourself is way to have fun for many players; especially with shooters. It's once you've reached the point overreaction to a loss and taking the game far too seriously, that you've strayed too far away from the initial intent of the game.
