Friendly Fire isn't friendly.
Incoming rounds have the right of way.

I like friendly fire myself, it forces people to think a little more before shooting. But if they did it would need to be a lot better than planetside, and something less griefer-freindly than BF2. Having idiots jump in front of your plane or tank before you can stop just to get you kicked off the server really sucks.

I think FF is a good idea, and frankly its needed. What else is going stop that 'nub' from spamming grenades for example? That having been said, FF isnt much of a deterrent for thumper users in Planetside. We shall see...

Its tricky, griefing can totally ruin a game. There wont be as many servers in Huxley as BF2 that will allow you to switch cause of the MMOFPS, you keep your lvls and char.
On the other hand, tactics come into play alot more if you cant shoot wildy when you have team mates in front of you.

In PS you can get shot by your own people. Unless you are grouped with someone you get "Grief" points for hitting a friendly. Accumulate an excessive amount of Grief and your weapons lock up--they don't work. Also, any vehicle you drive acquires a governor and moves like your grandma is driving. But I agree with thd consensus. there should be the ability to acquire damage from friendly sources. on that same note, I think Webzen should create a "grief-type" system to discourage Teamkillers.

They slowly start to disappear as you play, the less you have the faster they go down. When you reach 1000 grief points you get a weapons lock preventing you from firing any weapon. Plus they are a global stat for all of your characters on that server. So you can't just jump to another character and start griefing again.
It?s not a bad system. But there are some annoyances that I could do without. Like if a vehicle drives over you, because you hurt it you get grief points as well, which can be really annoying when some idiot just darts right over a bridge hitting everyone in his path. And I?ve had upto about 400 grief points just from being hit by a lightning while trying to cross a bridge, which really can suck.

I am a Combat Engineer in PS and spend a lot of time seeding minefields and spit boxes. This is one way to work the grief off. last night, I spent an hour and a half constantly seeding a minefield and rebuilding spitfires and motion sensor. I fired very little out of my MCG.

i say we go with the same system of ps. Grief seems to work in planetside (sometimes) but maybe have a lil more penalty for grief.

well i would go with no ff but realisticly it helps a lot to have it, for instence someone does something stupid like give away squad location then you can shoot em in the head to shut em up etc.
hindering the squad... shoot em in the head... with ff however will come a punishment system like the grief system in ps, shoot too many random friendlies and you can be basicly unable to play the game.

the grief system in PS was a joke though, by accident you can totally own yourself, in the form of disabling your account; that was mostly coz vehicles could damage each other on crashing. just look at iraq, how many deaths there have been vehicle accidents? 10%? perhaps stick some big bumper-car tyres around everything.
as for noobs from my side carelessly shooting their massive aoe rockets from behind their noob-friendly flying hulks, in the general area of fighting to max their kills, when IM in there taking guys out at close range... man that not be right. no. no friendly fire. flagging yourself as Non-Friendly, now that'd be an idea. cant have noobs thinking they untouchable just coz they the same race as me. no way! |
