Well as we saw in videos and different screenshots, there are Player or NPCs standing near each other wifting with their hands in the air "Discussing" things. And in videos they say that players communicate. So as it seems to me that when you want to talk to a player you dont have a general caht where everybody can say whatever they want, the only way to talk to somebody is to approach them like in videos and on screenshots and talk to people like in RPGs where you see the face of an APC and he pseaks and subtitles run under the face. Maybe instead of subtitles there would be the text you type to the players. And how it would work in groups yo umight think, the same way as one on one speach, you just simply come in the group and speak with eachother, type the phrases i mean.
I know it all sounds weird but in videos they say that they communicate and stuff they dont explain how it works but that's how it probably does. FOr example when they approach few guys standing they say here you come and communicate with other players and they show a couple that stand near eachother and talk. Plus on the other hand how wil lthe general caht work in there since they have so huge cities?

There will probably be some buddy list function or something like that where you can speak with your friends. But i dunno, but there must be in some kind of way, cause if there are to be clans, there is gotta be clan chats so everybody understand what they are doing.

I read somewhere that in cities it will be like Halo 2 where you can hear people in a certain vicinity

Found this screenshot, which i came by many times but never thought much of it. But as it seems to me that window seems to serve as something, im sure it works as showing you who kills who like in BF series and many other FPS games, but this also might serve as Chat Window.

I just had an awesome idea. What if we could chat with people of other nations and the server could translate their text to the best of it's abilities. That way everyone can enjoy it...

Or it could implement a form of quick chat like in PS or CoD where you hit a hot key then a series of numbers to get the premade order or response you want. Then the clients interpret the code and put it into text so it would be guaranteed to mean the same thing anywhere.

Well,on the 360 version im fairly sure they are going to just have a certain vicinity in which you can hear people. It might be the same for the PC if you use a mike like all those WoW players.

i think there will most likely be different chat channels once you enter a city.

somthing like in warcraft, where you have a general channel, trade channel, LookingForGroup channel, and just recently, a guild-recruitment channel.

you were able to leave and join any channel with /join, and /leave command.

I think chat only no typing for PC would suck, and I don't think it would happen. You have a keyboard for more than one reason :P However i'm not exactly sure if that is what the discussion was about lol, I couldn't really tell but what i'm saying is I would definetely prefer typing over talking.

i vote walkie-talkies for communication. u can change the channel setting to somthing between like 1-25 and here people within a certain range. and then have a massive general chat that just gets spammed with random dumbasses

Well obviously having something like teamspeak or ventrilo wouldn't work because that has everyone on a channel, they would have to have something that automatically changed when you went into the world, when you go into a city, when you go into a battleground, etc.

Well i just hope that VoIP in Huxley will have many more functions then what it did in BFs. I Mean something like clan speak channel for the whole clan, like clan chat but only with voice so the whole clan can speak to eachother not type like slowpokes. And many other functions would be awesome too =)

yeah i reckon it will have vicinity as a form of chat on 360. Should also have private channels eh.

I wonder how chat would be handled between those in battle and those out. In RPGs, for the most part, you could communicate across whatever world it was set in via some kind of "tell" system. Though that wouldn't make much sense to have that there now that I think about it; that would be way too distracting for those in battle. They probably wouldn't have that capability...

If I remember correctly, they had that in FF online, it would translate the japanese and I think it gave you a tool bar to click certain phrases and such.

I think they most likely will have voice chat for groups and such.

But as in text im not sure. They would have to have some kind of guild com system to schedule meetings and so on.
